Write about your day, add a few photos and note what needs doing tomorrow. Trace keeps your journal, tasks, goals and people in one app. No account registration needed.

WRITE AND COLLECT Add text, photos, videos, Live Photos, voice recordings and sketches to your entries. Include a mood, place or weather, link someone to the entry, or write about a past day.

ORGANIZE INTO NOTEBOOKS Keep a notebook for a trip, your reading or work. Use your own photo as the cover, and decorate the pages with stickers placed and turned however you like. Long entries continue onto the next page, and the paper curls with your finger as you turn it. Simple mode removes the page decorations. You can also seal a day's entries into a letter and open it again in your mailbox.

TASKS, GOALS AND DATES Sort tasks into lists, add subtasks and set dates and reminders. Finished something and forgot to tick it? Log it on the day it happened. Leave undated tasks in the inbox. Arrange goals by time of day, track completion or quantities, set milestones and take days off. Keep birthdays and anniversaries with Gregorian or lunar dates. If you like, sync tasks and goals to the Reminders app, where ticking works both ways, and send important dates to Calendar with their alarms.

PEOPLE AND YOUR SHARED HISTORY Link entries to someone to see your records together. Keep notes on preferences, gifts and past conversations, and set a reminder to get in touch.

LOOK BACK AND EXPORT Each entry fills the screen, and a swipe up brings the next one. Browse the mood calendar, On This Day, photo wall and monthly or yearly reviews. The places you write about form a poster of place names, and you can also find entries on the map. Turn an entry into a share card, export journals as a PDF or save a notebook as a page-turning video.

MAKE IT COMFORTABLE Choose from 24 themes, built-in fonts and photo backgrounds. Adjust text sizes together or separately for headings, body and supporting text. Pick one of 21 app icons. Eight Home Screen widgets come in small, medium, large and extra large, with a Night, Paper or photo background, and on iOS 27 the full-page extra large widget fits on iPhone too.

ON IPAD Every page is laid out for the larger screen: a wide enough window splits into two columns, and a notebook turned sideways lies open as two pages. Portrait, landscape and Split View all work. With iCloud sync on, iPhone and iPad show the same entries.

DATA AND PRIVACY Entries stay on your device by default. Write and read offline, with no ads or third-party tracking. Optional sync uses your private iCloud database. You can also export a ZIP backup or enable the app lock, and check what a backup holds before you restore it. Optional period tracking is off by default. It uses Apple Health for menstrual-flow dates. Those dates stay in Apple Health and are not copied into the journal database, iCloud journal sync or ZIP backups.

FREE AND PRO Create unlimited entries, tasks, goals and people for free, with five notebooks, five important dates and up to three media attachments per entry. Themes, built-in fonts, backgrounds, app icons, widgets, iCloud sync and ZIP backups are also free. Pro adds daily letters, PDF export, notebook videos, journal comments, Live Activities and font import. It allows up to nine media attachments per entry and unlimited notebooks and important dates.
