E-clair: Learn from Podcasts

Take the podcasts you already listen to and make them language practice. Do the same with your own recordings and audio links. Made by language learners, for language learners.

E-clair shows you the transcript while you listen, synced word by word. Tap anything you don't know for a translation, save it to your notebook, and it comes back later as a flashcard.

WHAT YOU CAN STUDY

• Podcasts. Subscribe to a show and study its episodes. • Your own recordings. A voice memo, a lesson with your tutor, an audiobook chapter. • Audio links. Paste a direct link to an audio file (MP3, M4A, WAV and similar) and E-clair fetches it.

You're not limited to a fixed content library. E-clair works on the audio you already want to listen to, in more than 20 languages.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Add a podcast episode, an audio file, or a link.
2. E-clair transcribes it with word-level timing.
3. Read along while you listen. The transcript follows the audio.
4. Tap a word or phrase to translate it.
5. Save it to your notebook and review it as a flashcard.

FEATURES

Transcript in sync with the audio The line you're hearing is highlighted as it plays. The timing is word by word, so you can follow along even when the speech is fast.

Translate by tapping Tap a word, tap a phrase, or drag across part of a line to translate only that part. You stay in the episode the whole time.

Replay one word or one sentence Press replay and only that word or sentence plays, then it stops. It's for the sentence you've rewound five times and still can't make out.

Notebook Save words and phrases while you listen. Each entry keeps its translation, its position in the audio, and the episode it came from, so you can hear it in context again.

Flashcards with spaced repetition Your notebook becomes review material: two-sided cards, or fill-in-the-blank cards made from sentences you actually heard. Reviews are scheduled with FSRS, a modern spaced-repetition algorithm. Cards you find hard come back sooner, cards you know come back less often, and you review in short sessions instead of re-reading everything.

Collections Group episodes and recordings by show, by course, or however you organize your study.

Curated shows A list of podcasts chosen for clear speech and reasonable difficulty. Their transcripts are ready the moment you open an episode.

E-clair transcribes more than 20 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Japanese and Korean.

WHO IT IS FOR

People past the beginner stage. You can follow a simple conversation, but native speech at full speed is still hard to catch. If you already have podcasts you like, or recordings from your lessons, you can study those instead of working through another course. That's what E-clair does to a podcast: it turns audio that's over your head into comprehensible input. Read along, tap what you don't know, and speech at full speed becomes something you can follow.

If you only want a transcript to read once, a transcription app will do the job. E-clair is built for the audio you come back to: working through the same episode, and keeping what you got out of it.

Does it work with any podcast? Add any show by its feed. Curated shows are already transcribed; anything else is transcribed when you open an episode.

Is this comprehensible input? That's the idea. An episode that's too fast to follow becomes input you can understand, and the same episode gets easier every time you come back to it.
