Today in History is a historical event lookup tool built on top of the Wikipedia open knowledge base, designed for researchers, teachers, students and content creators.

■ Data Source & Update Mechanism Event titles and summaries are pulled directly from the official Wikipedia On-This-Day API. Each visit to a date refreshes both Chinese and English versions, indexed by year and de-duplicated. All events are sorted in ascending chronological order for clean timeline analysis.

■ Engineering Features • Three-tier cache: memory then on-disk (24h TTL) then bundled fallback • Offline degradation: switches automatically to the local library on network failure • Parallel fetch: Chinese and English endpoints requested concurrently, around 50 percent faster load • Incremental index: calendar view shows real-time dot indicators for days with events

■ Search & Filter • Multi-category intersection: combine any subset of seven categories • Region select: China only / World only / All • Full-text fuzzy search: matches keywords across titles and bodies in both languages • Calendar jump: tap any date to load instantly
