The 150 Psalms, translated from Hebrew and sung as the songs they were always meant to be. Volume I now available, with future volumes added free as the project grows.
Psalm Song is a complete musical setting of the Book of Psalms, translated from the Hebrew by Paul Whitehorn and presented as the songs they were always meant to be.
THE STORY BEHIND THE WORK
I was saved with a guitar in my hand. In that same moment, I was called by God and commanded to magnify Him. I began working on these settings of the Psalms that very day, and the work has been a labor of love ever since. What you hold in this app is the fruit of years of recording, translating, studying, and singing. Volume I is the first 25 Psalms made available to others. The remaining 125 are still being recorded. Every future Psalm will reach you through free updates as the work is completed.
THE PSALTER IS A SONGBOOK
The Psalter is the largest book in Scripture, and for three thousand years it has been the prayer book and hymnbook of God's people. This app returns the Psalms to their original sonic form, paired with new translations directly from the Hebrew, and classified according to a structural apparatus drawn from the author's thesis Psalms Are Songs Not Poems.

Volume I contains the first 25 Psalms of the corpus, including every recording, every translation, every paired scripture and lyric line, and every structural classification. Future volumes will follow.

THE THESIS, BUILT IN
The apparatus that organizes this work is drawn from a thesis arguing that the Psalter contains two functional types. Cantillated psalms are built for communal vocal enactment before God. Didactic psalms are built for instruction directed to the hearer. The full thesis is included in the app, divided into nine readable sections, with audio of the author reading the preface.
FOR WHOM THIS APP WAS MADE
For pastors who want to preach the Psalms with a deeper sense of how they sound.
For theology students working through the structural and form critical questions of the Psalter.
For worship leaders looking for genuine settings of the Psalms rather than paraphrases.
For anyone who has wanted to actually hear the Psalms sung as the gathered community of God's people has sung them across three millennia.
THE PROJECT
Psalm Song is a living project. Volume I contains 25 Psalms. The complete corpus of 150 will be released across six volumes as recording continues. Every future volume is delivered through free app updates, so a single install today grows with the work as it is finished.
