Keeping track of practice driving hours sounds simple until you are actually doing it. A notebook gets lost, a parent forgets to write something down, and suddenly nobody is sure how many night hours have been logged or whether the permit is close to expiring. Driving Hours Log was built to take that friction away.

The app records each practice session using GPS running in the background. Start a session before the drive, lock your phone, and let it run. When you are done, the drive is saved with the exact duration, distance, and time of day. No timers to watch, nothing to fill in afterward.

Because the app knows when a session starts and ends, it automatically separates daytime and night driving. This matters in most states, where a specific number of night hours is required separately from the total. You can see both figures at a glance, along with how far you still have to go before the hour requirements are met.

During setup, the app loads the default supervised driving requirements for your state. You will see targets for total hours and night hours, and your progress updates after every session. These defaults are a starting point based on publicly available information, and driving regulations do change. State requirements can be updated by legislators or revised by the DMV at any time, sometimes without much notice. We do our best to keep the built-in figures accurate, but we strongly encourage every user to verify their state's current requirements directly with their state's official DMV or motor vehicle authority before relying on this app to confirm eligibility. The hours shown in the app are for personal tracking purposes only, and it is always the user's responsibility to confirm what their state currently requires.

All session details can be edited after saving. If you need to correct a time, add a note about road conditions, or record who was in the supervising seat, you can do that at any time. The full history stays organized by date and is easy to scroll through.

When it is time to share your record, the app can generate a PDF of a single session or a complete export of every drive logged. These are clean, readable documents that work well for sharing with a driving school, an instructor, or a parent who wants a full picture. PDF export is the only paid feature in the app, available as a one-time purchase with no subscription. Everything else, including GPS tracking, hour separation, state requirement targets, session notes, and reminders, is free.

The app was built for student drivers going through the graduated licensing process and the parents who supervise them. It is not designed for commercial use or fleet tracking. The features are focused, the interface stays out of the way, and there is nothing you have to figure out before it starts being useful.
