KNX Diagnostic & Analysis Tool
Analyze KNX/IP live, check DPTs, discover devices, compare bus data with ETS-project files, and log issues on-site with your iPhone or iPad.
KNX Inspector is a professional analysis and diagnostics app for KNX/IP installations on iPhone and iPad. The app connects to KNX/IP gateways and interfaces, monitors telegrams in real time, checks group addresses, analyzes physical device addresses, and compares live data with imported ETS projects.
The app was developed for commissioning, service, troubleshooting, and technical analysis. It is ideal for system integrators, service technicians, and anyone who needs to understand, test, and document KNX systems during live operation.
Key Features:
- Connection to KNX/IP gateways and interfaces
- Network search via KNX multicast and local gateway discovery
- Live monitoring of KNX telegrams
- Filters for direction, telegram type, search text, and group address
- Raw data and plain-text display with DPT reference
- Bus alarm for targeted monitoring of group or device addresses
- DPT test for reading and writing group addresses
- Line scan for physical KNX device addresses
- Telegram scan for active group communication
- Complete analysis combining device discovery and telegram monitoring
- ETS / .knxproj import for the Compare ETS feature
- Project structure with functions, buildings, rooms, and topology
- Export functions for documentation and sharing
- Local session and history management
Supported devices include KNXnet/IP-compatible devices, interfaces, and routers accessible via the standard UDP port 3671. This includes, for example, KNX/IP gateways and interfaces from manufacturers such as MDT, Gira, Jung, Hager, Weinzierl, ABB, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Theben, and Busch-Jaeger.
With the Live Monitor, you can observe KNX telegrams in real time. The app displays the source, destination, group address, payload, telegram type, and, wherever possible, decoded values. Filters help you track specific communication patterns, group addresses, or responses.
The Bus Map combines devices, group activity, and communication patterns into a structured analysis. This allows you to quickly identify which participants are active, which group addresses are being used, and which transmitters generate the most traffic.
With Compare ETS, you can cross-reference live data with an imported ETS project. This reveals which devices were detected live, which project devices are missing, which groups are active, and where discrepancies exist between the live bus and the project data.
The DPT Test is ideal for targeted functional testing. Group addresses can be read or written, and supported DPTs are decoded and displayed as clearly as possible. This allows you to directly test switching, dimming, temperature values, scenes, and many other typical KNX functions.
A complete list of supported decoded KNX data types, as well as technical notes, is available online via the support URL.
KNX Inspector works locally on your device and is optimized for practical on-site work. The app is particularly suitable for:
- Commissioning KNX systems
- Service and maintenance work
- Troubleshooting telegram and group address issues
- Comparing live installations with the ETS project
- Documenting technical observations
- Remote monitoring of the KNX bus via VPN
