DSD & Hi-Res Network Player
1-bit is a private, bit-exact music player for iPhone and iPad. Play your own files from a UPnP/DLNA media server, an SMB share, your personal 1-bit-bridge server, or directly from the device — no cloud, no login, no account.
SOURCES
• UPnP/DLNA media servers on your Wi-Fi — a NAS, MiniDLNA, Plex, or a Chord 2Go. Found automatically; browse and stream bit-exact, DSD included.
• SMB shares on your home network (NAS, server, shared folder).
• 1-bit-bridge — a free, open-source (MIT) companion server you run yourself on Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi, or Windows. HTTPS with TLS-fingerprint pinning; tap-to-pair over Bonjour or scan a QR code.
• On-device files dropped into the app via the Files app.
• Offline downloads: pin albums, playlists, or tracks for bit-exact playback with no network.
AUDIO
• Bit-exact PCM (FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, MP3, M4A) up to the limits of your DAC.
• Bit-exact DSD via DoP for both DSF and DSDIFF (.dff) files, up to DSD512. Requires a USB DAC that reports DoP lock (Chord Hugo 2 / Mojo 2 / Hugo TT 2, iFi, Topping, etc.).
• Gapless transitions when adjacent tracks share format and rate.
• DAC-aware: per-DAC buffer and settle profiles for Chord, iFi, and other USB DACs; a thermal-aware buffer ladder keeps DSD256/512 smooth under load.
OUTPUT
• Play on this device — USB DAC, AirPods, AirPlay 2, or built-in.
• Cast straight to a DLNA renderer such as a Chord 2Go: a bridge- or media-server-sourced track streams from the source to the renderer directly, keeping your iPhone out of the audio path. Pick one from Now Playing.
CARPLAY
• Browse Recently Added, Recently Played, Artists, Albums, Playlists, and Downloads from your car's screen, with an A–Z index.
• Tap any track to play; Now Playing shows what's next with steering-wheel transport, shuffle, and repeat.
• PCM only over CarPlay — DSD is hidden to avoid head-unit incompatibility.
LIBRARY
• Fast SwiftData-backed library that handles 50,000+ tracks across SMB, bridge, and media-server sources.
• Search tracks, albums, and artists; filter albums and artists by source.
• Albums, artists, and playlists with cached artwork and artist images, plus a Recently Played history.
• Classical metadata first-class: composer, conductor, work, original year, and BPM from your tags, shown in rows and album headers. A "Conducted by X" header appears when an album shares a conductor.
• Multi-artist tracks split on "; " — long-press a credit to jump to that featured artist.
• First-scan resumes in the background overnight when the device is on a charger.
PLAYER
• Now Playing with smooth elapsed time, signal-path readout, and an artwork-derived background.
• Resume where you left off — queue and position are restored even after the app is closed.
• Home-Screen widget in multiple sizes: current track, its quality, a signal-path dot, and transport controls.
• Long-press the mini-player for transport and queue; long-press a folder to Play, Add to Queue, Play Next, or Create Playlist — no scan required.
• Lock Screen, Control Center, CarPlay, and AirPlay 2 transport.
• Sleep timer (end of track or custom) and PCM crossfeed (off by default).
BRIDGE EXTRAS (OPTIONAL)
• Upscaling: your bridge can serve higher-rate PCM variants of your own files, generated on your hardware with the original always preserved bit-exact. Pick a variant from the player and switch mid-track. No third party ever sees the file.
• Backup: optionally back up playlists and playback history to your own bridge — off by default, never shared.
PRIVACY
• No analytics, no tracking, no ads, no account servers.
• Optional Deezer artist-image lookup is anonymous and off by default.
• Passwords and tokens live in the iOS Keychain.
• Network traffic stays on your LAN unless you connect to a remote bridge via Tailscale or similar.
• Built-in log viewer — logs never leave the device unless you share them.
Requires iOS 26.1 or later.
