1-bit

1-bit is a private, bit-exact music player for iPhone and iPad. Play your own files from a UPnP/DLNA media server, an SMB share, your personal 1-bit-bridge server, or directly from the device — no cloud, no login, no account.

SOURCES • UPnP/DLNA media servers on your Wi-Fi — NAS, MiniDLNA, Plex, or a Chord 2Go. Found automatically; stream bit-exact, DSD included. • SMB shares on your home network (NAS, server, shared folder). • 1-bit-bridge — a free, open-source (MIT) companion server you run on Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi, or Windows. TLS-fingerprint-pinned HTTPS; tap-to-pair over Bonjour or a QR code. • Files-app imports and offline downloads — pin albums, playlists, or tracks for bit-exact playback offline.

AUDIO • Bit-exact PCM (FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, MP3, M4A) up to the limits of your DAC. • Bit-exact DSD via DoP for DSF and DSDIFF (.dff), up to DSD512. Requires a USB DAC that reports DoP lock (Chord Hugo 2 / Mojo 2 / Hugo TT 2, iFi, Topping, Mytek, etc.). • Gapless transitions when adjacent tracks share format and rate. • DAC-aware: per-DAC tuning for Chord, iFi, and other USB DACs, with anti-click rate switching and thermal-aware buffering for smooth DSD256/512.

VOICE & SIRI • "Hey Siri, play [album, artist, or playlist] on 1-bit" — on your phone, hands-free, or in the car. • Shuffle your library or play your downloads from Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight.

HOME MIXES (WITH A BRIDGE) • Your bridge curates mixes from your listening — Heavy Rotation, Daily Mix, On Repeat, Artist Deep Cuts, Drive Mix, Wind Down, and more. Your history stays on your own server.

OUTPUT • Play on this device — USB DAC, AirPods, AirPlay 2, or built-in. • Cast to a DLNA renderer such as a Chord 2Go — the track streams straight from the source, keeping your iPhone out of the path.

CARPLAY • Browse Recently Added, Recently Played, Artists, Albums, Playlists, and Downloads, A–Z indexed. • Voice search and one-tap Shuffle Library; Now Playing shows what's next with steering-wheel transport, shuffle, and repeat. • PCM only over CarPlay — DSD is hidden to avoid head-unit incompatibility.

LIBRARY • Fast library that handles 50,000+ tracks across SMB, bridge, and media-server sources. • Search tracks, albums, and artists; filter by source; "The"-aware A–Z sorting. • Albums, artists, and playlists with cached artwork and artist images, plus Recently Played. • Classical metadata: composer, conductor, work, original year, BPM, and performer credits, with a "Conducted by X" album header. • First-scan resumes overnight while on a charger.

PLAYER • Now Playing with smooth elapsed time, signal-path readout, and artwork-derived background. • Resume where you left off — queue and position restored after closing. • Home-Screen widget: current track, quality, signal-path dot, and transport. • Long-press a folder to Play, queue, play next, or make a playlist — no scan needed. • Lock Screen, Control Center, CarPlay, and AirPlay 2 transport. • Sleep timer (end of track or custom) and PCM crossfeed (off by default).

BRIDGE EXTRAS (OPTIONAL) • Upscaling: your bridge serves higher-rate PCM variants of your files, made on your hardware — original always preserved bit-exact, switch mid-track. No third party sees the file. • Atlas: optional artist and album "About" notes plus higher-quality cover art, fetched anonymously — off by default. • Backup: optionally back up playlists and playback history to your own bridge — off by default, never shared.

PRIVACY • No analytics, no tracking, no ads, no accounts. • Optional lookups (Deezer artist images, Atlas metadata) are anonymous and off by default — never used for tracking. • Passwords and tokens live in the iOS Keychain. • Traffic stays on your LAN unless you connect to a remote bridge via Tailscale or similar. • Built-in log viewer — logs never leave the device unless you share them.
