Trockenfenster: Rain Radar

Minute-precise rain forecasts for Germany, straight from DWD radar — not from weather models. Push alerts only when rain is heading your way. Ad-free, GDPR-first.

Trockenfenster tells you to the minute whether rain is about to reach you — Germany only, computed directly from the DWD's open radar feed.

No weather model, no guesswork. Trockenfenster reads DWD's weather radar live — a new frame every five minutes, 1 km resolution across Germany. A data-driven nowcasting algorithm running on our own backend in Frankfurt tracks the motion of every individual rain cell and projects it forward minute by minute for the next 60 minutes — precise for your location, not a postcode average. Heading out with the dog in fifteen minutes? Trockenfenster tells you whether to grab the umbrella or wait another ten.

WHAT IT DOES

• 0–60 minute forecast timeline for your location, with mm/h intensity and a minute-precise heads-up ("Rain in X min").

• Live radar map with a timeline scrubber: 60 min backwards, 60 min forwards. Play button with standard and fast animation speeds for smooth playback.

• Wind tab with a particle-based flow visualisation based on radar-derived motion — shows the direction a rain front is actually moving.

• Up to 3 saved locations (Home, Office, dog-walk spot …) with per-activity thresholds: "Running — only warn below 2 mm/h", "Dog — any drop", "BBQ — above 3 mm/h".

• Push notifications that reach you only when rain is expected near one of your saved locations. No spam from Munich if you're in Hamburg.

• Place search for any address, postcode or town in Germany.

• DWD severe-weather warnings, auto-filtered to your federal state.

• Current weather from BrightSky (DWD stations + MOSMIX): temperature, wind, gusts, humidity, pressure, hourly 24-hour forecast.

• Switchable basemap: Liberty, Positron, Bright, Dark, Fiord — or your own style.json URL.

DATA SOURCES

All precipitation data comes from the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) — Germany-wide weather radar updated every 5 minutes, used under the GeoNutzV licence. Trockenfenster is NOT an official warning service; only the DWD issues official severe-weather warnings, which are flagged as such inside the app.

PRIVACY

• No ads. No trackers. No analytics. No advertising IDs (IDFA/AAID).

• Your coordinates are sent to the backend for forecast computation and not persisted — transmitted in the request body, never in URL query parameters, so they don't end up in access logs.

• Push notifications use regional topics on Firebase Cloud Messaging. The server stores only an anonymous device token; which locations you subscribe to is known by Firebase, not by our server.

• Crash reports go to Sentry in the EU region (Frankfurt), with no IP, no location, no user identifier — only stack traces and device metadata.
