New in 1.4: Menu Scan — check restaurant QR menus or photo-scan printed menus against your diner profile. Plus multilingual allergy cards and community restaurant ratings
Dine with more confidence — show staff what you need, check menus against your allergies, and learn from other diners.
Food Allergy Options helps people with food allergies and intolerances eat out more safely. Create a clear multilingual card for restaurant staff, set a diner profile that powers personalized menu checks, scan menus by QR or photo, and discover places with community allergy feedback.
YOUR DINER PROFILE
Tell the app which allergens matter and how severe each one is. Optionally add dietary preferences like vegetarian, vegan, no pork, no beef, or pescatarian. Your profile personalizes Menu Scan results and can be edited anytime in Account.
MENU SCAN — QR, LINK, OR PHOTO
Scan a restaurant QR code or paste a menu link to check a published menu against your diner profile. Dishes are sorted into Safe, Ask First, or Avoid, with reasons, confidence signals, and suggested substitutions when available. Always confirm with staff before ordering.
Photograph a printed menu (or choose one from your library) for AI-assisted analysis. Items are grouped into Likely Safe, Ask Chef to Sub Ingredients, and Likely Unsafe based on what is visible — guidance only, not a guarantee.
MULTILINGUAL ALLERGY CARDS
Create personalized cards for allergy or intolerance across 10 major allergens: dairy, peanuts, shellfish, gluten, soy, eggs, tree nuts, fish, sesame, and sulfites. Each card can be fully translated into one of 12 languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Korean, and Dutch — including a clear warning, foods to watch for, and optional emergency contact.
Open a card full-screen and the display brightens automatically so staff can read it in dim restaurant lighting.
FIND ALLERGY-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
Search restaurants, cafes, and bakeries with Apple Maps. See community allergy-friendliness ratings where diners have shared feedback, then open the place in Apple Maps when you’re ready to go. Community ratings are opinions from other users — not a certification.
SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE
After dining out, leave a quick rating for overall allergy friendliness, optional staff helpfulness, and an optional comment. Your reports help others with allergies choose where to eat.
OPTIONAL VISIT REMINDERS
Turn on visit reminders and the app can recognize when you’ve left a restaurant, then send a friendly local notification inviting you to share feedback. Fully opt-in, on-device, and easy to turn off. No marketing push notifications.
PRIVACY FIRST
Your allergy and health information is yours. We don’t sell your data or track you across apps. Account deletion is available anytime from your profile.
IMPORTANT
Food Allergy Options is guidance only — not medical advice and not a substitute for speaking with restaurant staff. Menus, ingredients, and kitchen practices change. For severe allergies, always confirm ingredients and preparation before ordering. In an emergency, call local emergency services.
