Humidity & Crack Risk Tracker
Pottery or ceramics? Check today's humidity and get a drying guide for your clay type. Know when to cover, tent, or air dry to help reduce cracks.
Clay cracks when it dries too fast — and molds when it dries too slow. ClayWeather checks your local weather and tells you how today's conditions affect your pottery drying.
Every potter knows the frustration: a mug you spent an hour throwing cracks overnight because the humidity dropped. The fix? Matching your drying strategy to daily conditions. ClayWeather does that math for you.
HOW IT WORKS
- Set your clay profile: clay type (porcelain, stoneware, earthenware, or raku) and typical piece thickness.
- ClayWeather checks current temperature, humidity, and wind at your location.
- You get a drying score, crack risk level, estimated drying time, and a clear action recommendation — cover, tent, or air dry.
It takes 15 seconds to set up. No account required.
DAILY DRYING SCORE
See a 0–100 score showing how suitable today's conditions are for drying your clay type. Porcelain needs slow, gentle drying. Raku tolerates faster conditions. The score adapts to your profile.
CRACK RISK INDICATOR
A color-coded indicator (Low, Medium, High, Extreme) warns you before conditions damage your work. Includes mold risk warnings when humidity stays too high.
ESTIMATED DRYING TIME
Get an approximate number of days from freshly thrown to bone dry, based on your clay type, thickness, and current weather.
ACTION RECOMMENDATION
Clear daily guidance: "Keep covered," "Use tent method," "Safe to air dry," or "Use a gentle fan." No guesswork.
