User Reviews

This is not a bread and butter reverb— it’s too unique and weird for that. It’s the special sauce you slather on a sound you want to be odd and undulating and pointy in parts. It’s best at being otherworldly. The modulation options are simple but deep; more interesting is the way it can combine incoming audio with its own samples of strange, improvised instruments. I wasn’t quite sure how that would work when I bought it, but the app really manages to blend whatever audio you throw at it with those other sounds for something natural-sounding but different. It’s that feature that really sets it apart for me. Perhaps my favorite aspect of the app, though, is that the reverbs are modeled on cool, actual spaces. The convolution reverb idea gels really well with Audiothing’s ethos of producing digital versions of physical things. I find that (admittedly somewhat artificial) connection to an actual place inspiring, and these are some fascinating spaces they’ve chosen. They ooze history. I always appreciate that Audiothing tries to maintain that connection to the physical world, and to communicate some of the special magic of these objects to the rest of us who don’t have access to Hainbach’s mad laboratory or Roman ruins. This one makes me want to plan a trip to some odd corners of Italy.
