Features & Capabilities

Eighteen chapters of the Tao Te Ching, recorded for daily practice. No advice. No predictions. Just the text — placed before you, then silence to sit with it.

A daily sit with the Tao Te Ching.

Eighteen chapters from the Tao Te Ching, voiced for stillness. One chapter per day. Ten to thirteen minutes. A bell to begin, the text in English, framing for what to notice, then silence — and a bell to close.

Koda is not a generic meditation app. It is built around a specific 2,500-year-old text — the Tao Te Ching, attributed to Lao Tzu. The recordings draw from the Wang Bi edition of the Chinese, with English translations written for clarity rather than literal accuracy.

WHAT'S INSIDE

· Eighteen guided chapters across four states — Hitting a wall (柔) — Overthinking (空) — Overdoing it (無為) — Spread thin (歸) · English audio of each chapter's lines, slowly read · Framing in plain language — "the text says…" — never instructional · Five to fifteen minutes of silence per session, with a midpoint bell · Three opening chapters free; the remaining fifteen unlock with subscription

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

· No predictions, no fortune-telling, no horoscope · No medical claims, no promises to "reduce stress" or "heal anxiety" · No spiritual chants or affirmations · No streak shaming, no leaderboards, no gamification

The text places things in view. The reading is yours.

A DAILY ANCHOR

The first seven days follow a curated sequence chosen to introduce all four themes at a calm pace. After that, you choose what fits the day — by mood, by state, by chapter.

After each session, a single word: settled, lighter, tired, heavier, same. The Reflections page keeps the words you've come back with — your practice over time, in your own language.

THE CHINESE CALENDAR (ALMANAC)

Beyond chapters, Koda includes a quiet calendar of the twenty-four solar terms (二十四節氣) — markers of the year that have shaped Chinese life for two millennia. Each term is a short reading: what it is, what shifts in nature, what people traditionally noted. No predictions. Just the year, observed.

SUBSCRIPTION

Koda is free to try with three opening chapters and the calendar. Full access — all eighteen chapters, future additions, and offline downloads — is available by subscription. Koda Pro: $9.99/month or $79.99/year (auto-renewable). Cancel anytime in iOS Settings. Subscription auto-renews unless turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the period.

A NOTE ON SOURCE

Chinese text: Wang Bi edition (王弼本) of the Tao Te Ching, public domain. English: written by the Koda content team, with reference to historical translations including James Legge (1891), also public domain. Bell sounds: licensed CC0 from Freesound.
