Heritage Walker: Trails

Heritage Walker is an offline map of 265,222 heritage places in 228 countries. Castles, prehistoric monuments, industrial landmarks, sacred sites, memorials, lighthouses and filming locations - stored on your phone, not fetched from a server.

WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL, BECAUSE IT CANNOT PHONE HOME Turn on airplane mode and the app behaves identically. That is not a setting. Heritage Walker contains no networking code of its own - the release build is automatically rejected if any appears in it. No account, no sign-up, no analytics. Nothing you do in this app can leave your phone, because there is no code capable of sending it. Adding a country is handled by the App Store itself, the way an app update arrives, and it carries nothing about you.

WHAT IS ON THE MAP 26,407 castles. 41,625 archaeological sites. 22,748 museums. 6,242 lighthouses. 1,858 film and television locations. Every record travels with you.

NARRATED IN THE RIGHT LANGUAGE Tap a site and hear it read aloud. A Dutch church is read in Dutch, a French abbey in French - the app detects the language of each record on your device and picks a matching voice, instead of reading the world in English.

FIVE NARRATED ISLE OF MAN TRAILS Hand-written walking trails - Peel, Douglas, the ancient south, Viking heartland and the Laxey valley. Every stop on every trail is narrated, roughly forty-five seconds each, written rather than generated. Included with Heritage Plus.

THIS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE If you want reviews, opening hours, ticket prices or somewhere to eat, this is the wrong app - it will tell you what a place is and when it mattered, and nothing else. If you want a social feed, there isn't one, and there cannot be.

HERITAGE PLUS The map, the search and the site narration are free and complete - no trial, no counter. Every country is already there in outline, so you can see exactly what you would be paying for before you pay for it.

Heritage Plus adds the country you are walking in, in full. Rome goes from 419 places to 2,200. The country is carried on the phone rather than streamed, so it keeps working when the signal does not. Plus also unlocks the five narrated trails and removes the limit on saved places. Fifty-one countries are available and you can carry nine at a time.

£3.99 a month or £13.99 a year, with a 14-day free trial. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. Subscriptions renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends; manage or cancel them in your Apple Account settings.
