Frame photos with EXIF & gear
v3.0 "Frame, in motion." — Now you can frame videos too. Up to 60 seconds, with trim and mute, exported as MP4. A new SNS ratio guide helps you pick the right shape.
Frame a single photo or video. Make it a work.
Kakou is a photo framing app from Japan — shaped by washi texture, traditional color, and the quiet craft of "飾る" (kazaru, "to frame").
Pick a photo or video, pick a color, frame it. Done in three taps.
◆ Start framing the moment you pick.
Select a photo or video from your library and you're in the editor. Adjust frame color, border, and aspect ratio with a live preview — the same workflow for stills and motion.
◆ Frame your videos, the same way.
Up to 60 seconds, with simple trim and mute, exported as a framed MP4 — share it straight from the export sheet.
◆ Color is part of the work.
Eleven traditional Japanese colors preset: sumi (ink), washi (off-white), rikyū-gray, shu (vermilion), ai (indigo), wasurenagusa (forget-me-not blue), brown, bengara, uguisu (bush-warbler green), plus black and white. A custom color picker for anything else. Set the inner border and background independently.
◆ Five border styles — solid, double, print frame, washi edge, mat V-cut.
The washi edge mimics the torn fibrous edge of Japanese handmade paper — procedurally generated, every export unique. Mat V-cut blends the matte border with the background color, like a museum-style mat. Round the photo corners for a softer feel.
◆ Save your look. Reuse it instantly.
Save any combination of frame color, border style, and text settings as a preset. One tap to apply next time.
◆ The right ratio for every platform.
1:1 for LINE and X. 4:5 for Instagram feed. 9:16 for Reels, Stories, Shorts, and TikTok. 16:9 for YouTube. 1.91:1 for note. Tap "ⓘ How to choose a ratio" for a quiet info-only guide — each ratio drawn at its true shape, side by side, so you can pick by shape.
◆ EXIF gear info, captured or typed.
Add a title, or include the camera, lens, and film you used. GPS coordinates from EXIF can be pulled into the title with one tap. Gear info reads from EXIF automatically, or enter manually — register frequently-used gear in the gear library for one-tap entry. Adjust text size, weight, and letter spacing to fit the frame.
◆ The photo is the subject. Gear is optional.
The preview keeps the photo front and center. Gear info is off by default — turn it on when you want to share what you shot with. Both approaches feel at home.
◆ Hang it on a real wall, before you commit.
Preview your framed photo on your actual walls through the iPhone camera. Check how it sits in your room. Or float it in mid-air — a different kind of browsing.
AR preview requires a LiDAR Scanner (iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro / Pro Max models, iPad Pro 2020 or later). On other devices, the AR button is hidden.
◆ Quiet by design. The photo stays the subject.
Built on Dieter Rams' principles and OOUI. A washi-textured palette keeps the interface restrained, so your work — not the app — holds the stage.
