Features & Capabilities

Seven walking trails through Singapore, each one a story that opens as you reach each stop. Three free stops per trail, and three free dishes in Makan Time.

Seven narrated walking trails through Singapore's neighbourhoods, from Tiong Bahru to Marina Bay. Reach a stop and its story opens on its own: no check-in, no scanning, no QR codes. The first three stops of every trail are free.

How a walk goes

  • Pick a trail and make your way to its first stop.
  • A path on the map leads you from one stop to the next.
  • Arrive, and the stop opens on its own.

Eyes up, ears on Every stop's story is narrated, so you can keep your eyes on the street and your phone in your pocket.

The seven trails Each trail is researched from sources we can stand behind, and walked end to end by us on the ground before it goes live, so the story holds from the first stop to the last. More than 160 stops in all. Walk them in any order, at your own pace, pausing and resuming whenever you like.

Into the Heartlands of Tiong Bahru Tiong Bahru. 18 stops, 2.7 km, about 2 hours. How Singaporeans came to live the way they do, told through a single neighbourhood.

The Nanyang Passage through Chinatown Chinatown. 20 stops, 2.5 km, about 2 hours 15 minutes. The long crossing from southern China into the streets where it first settled.

Malay Footprints, from Kampong Glam to Geylang Serai Kampong Glam and Geylang Serai. 34 stops, 3.1 km, about 3 hours 30 minutes. Two ends of Singapore's Malay-Muslim world, a short ride apart.

The Enclave that Became Little India Little India. 24 stops, 2.8 km, about 2 hours 30 minutes. The quarter that a community from across India slowly made its own.

One City, Many Cultures Bras Basah and Bugis. 24 stops, 3.2 km, about 2 hours 30 minutes. Synagogue, cathedral, temples and mosque, within a few streets of each other.

City in Nature Tanjong Pagar to Fort Canning. 23 stops, 4.2 km, about 3 hours. How a dense city decided to grow itself green.

A Little Red Dot Marina Bay and the Civic District. 25 stops, 4.9 km, about 3 hours 15 minutes. How a small, doubted country turned every limit into strength.

Makan Time Singapore prides itself on its hawker food, and Makan Time tells you the story on each plate: where a dish came from and the flavours you're tasting. Found one you love? Jot down your own notes, and each dish you try lands a card in your passport and a plate on your own hawker table.

Your passport Every stop you reach and every dish you try earns a card, a piece of its story to keep. They gather in your passport, to page through any time. Free first, then pay once The first three stops of every trail are free to walk, and so are three dishes in Makan Time, enough to know whether it's for you before spending anything. When you want the rest, a single one remaining stop and dish. No subscription: pay once, andit's yours.

From the two of us We're two Singaporeans who built Tanken the slow way: dry, walking each route until the sequence feels right, and rewriting every stop until it earns its place. If you've ever stood somewhere in this city and wanted its story, we built these seven trails to tell it.
