PowerMeter

PowerMeter is the South African prepaid electricity tracker that pays attention to detail. Track every voucher, every meter reading, every Rand you spend keeping the lights on.

I built it because the existing options either treat prepaid as a postpaid afterthought, or hide the actual math behind glossy charts.

Your phone has a battery percentage. Now your home does too: PowerMeter turns the number on your meter into days of power remaining, and warns you before you run out.

WHAT YOU CAN DO ON THE FREE PLAN • Log every prepaid voucher with amount, kWh, VAT split, and token number • Capture your voucher SMS via clipboard auto-parse. POWERMETER PRO • AI meter scanning. Point your camera at the meter, get the reading parsed by AI. Five scans per day. • Voice input. Say the reading out loud instead of typing it. Recognition runs entirely on your device, so it works at the meter box with no signal, and your audio never leaves your phone. • Siri. "Hey Siri, log a reading on PowerMeter" from the lock screen, Spotlight, Shortcuts or the Action Button, without opening the app. • Usage forecast. Your units projected forward to the day they run out. • Why your cost changed. PowerMeter separates using more electricity from paying a higher rate, and names the NERSA increase when there was one. • Top-up timing. See what your next top-up costs in your current tariff block, and when the block resets. • Advanced insights. Burn rate, days-until-empty prediction, cost-per-day, seasonal patterns. • IBT tariff block visualisation. See which block you're in and when you'll cross into the next one. • Regional comparison. WHY POWERMETER

• Honest math. The R figure on the dashboard is exactly what came out of your wallet. Tariff per kWh is the ex-VAT NERSA figure, not the gross.
• South African by default. NERSA tariff data, ZAR currency, en-ZA number formatting, VAT split, municipal IBT blocks.
• Private by design. We store your voucher and reading data on Cloudflare's secure infrastructure. We don't sell, share, or analyse your personal data for advertising. No third-party trackers in the app.
• I built the tool I wished existed when we first installed a prepaid meter.
