engo: AR Glasses

I purchased the ENGO 3 specifically because the marketing repeatedly highlights Apple Watch compatibility and suggests a simple Apple experience. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. If you’re an Apple user, understand that this is not a native “start an Apple Workout and go” experience. The glasses do not automatically mirror Apple Workout data the way the marketing implies. Instead, I found myself juggling multiple apps (ActiveLook, Navigr8, and Apple Workout) just to test the product. Several key functions—including adjusting the HUD, changing display pages, and configuring the glasses—still rely on the ActiveLook app. The ENGO companion app offers very little functionality on iOS compared with what the advertising led me to expect. The hardware itself is interesting. The HUD is genuinely impressive in low-light conditions, battery life appears promising, and the concept has tremendous potential for trail runners and ultrarunners. However, the Apple ecosystem feels like an afterthought while Garmin users appear to receive the fully integrated experience. If ENGO marketed this as: * Excellent Garmin integration * Basic Apple compatibility I would have had very different expectations and probably wouldn’t be writing this review. I sincerely hope future software updates bring true Apple Watch integration because the hardware deserves it.
