SmokeWise gives you hyperlocal burning advice so you know when it's safe and responsible to use your wood stove. The app combines real-time weather data, PM2.5 air quality measurements from multiple citizen science and official sensor networks, and local regulations into a clear advisory: green, orange, or red.

HOW IT WORKS SmokeWise calculates a burning score based on five layers:

• Wind speed and direction
• PM2.5 particulate matter concentration via citizen sensor networks
• Mixing layer height (boundary layer) and inversion detection
• Humidity and precipitation
• Municipal burning rules and bans

The score refreshes automatically — sensor data updates every 10 minutes, weather every 30 minutes — and is specific to your neighborhood, not a national average but street-level advice.

OPEN DATA SmokeWise gratefully uses open data from:

• Open-Meteo — weather, wind, and boundary layer data
• Sensor.Community — international citizen sensor network (PM2.5)
• National and regional air quality networks — official measurements and local advisories (varies by country)

SUPPORTED COUNTRIES Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway. Coverage is best where citizen science sensor networks are most dense.
