Original post: Sadly, another great developer who is normally an insta-buy for me has now been corrupted by the subscription model. Did give it 2 stars because it looks like it is another solid product as usual, just sad to see another loss to the sub drain.

7 days it says in the subscription tab under settings. I didn’t sign up for a trial. But it seems that by using the app I only get 7 days to tap on a clicking target? So, I have been making music on and off for over 20 years. I have also used all sorts of rhythm trainers and some games that turned out to work like rhythm trainers, like the old game tap revolution, where it was like the console game Rock band but instead of a toy guitar or fake drums kit, you tap on the lanes as the dots race by on screen to a lot of really popular songs. The music was the option you paid for outside of their generic techno soundtrack. So, you got rewarded for paying to play. It wasn’t paying fealty to open an app they created just because you downloaded it to use daily, or just weekends, toilet breaks or,… whenever. Subscription models were something that Apple and some other companies researched the younger generation at the time and found millennials didn’t care about keeping their data on a local device as long as they had access to it by streaming from the cloud or other network based… thing, they’d be willing to pay for it. Or, at least those who were polled for the study said. They also found those from previous generations were more old school because we had this silly idea of owning what we paid for (as that is how commerce and buying from a store works). Now everything and everyone wants to think their product or service is worth a portion of the finite amount of money we work hard to earn. If they tell it to you in a per month amount it doesn’t sound so bad as yearly does. $30 is what I am seeing the annual listed as at this time of year writing this while they are offering an intro until May something. The problem is, this is just tapping. There are plenty of free rhythm trainers out there for iOS. I have 2 different completely free ones made by music device and app makers that are great and eleven offer watch integration for percussionists. I would have paid a reasonable flat one-time fee for that. All of AudioKits other apps I have waited for their release like people waited for new iPhones to come out early on. Get in on the app early and you are rewarded as early adopters with a low intro rate. Some were only available for a certain time, which seemed limiting. But subscription models are a slap in the face, and they seem to get more ridiculous each time a company says, “I bet people are silly enough to pay this.”. I liked all but one app prior to this release from AudioKit. But this lost me. It’s just tapping and there are other professional apps out there for free. The argument of people want paid to make the app is valid. I’ve paid for the apps. I have paid for apps that have awesome upgrades. But I pay once for the the products. There isn’t really a way to make tapping on glass interesting enough or different every month for the life of the app. Plenty of people have learned how to keep a beat and made money doing it long before someone slapped a pay wall on it.
