User Reviews

Reviewers largely praise AoH2: Definitive for its smoother UI, quality-of-life improvements, and deeper mechanics, making it a worthy successor to AoH2 and offering satisfying, arcade-style grand strategy. However, multiple reviews cite recurring issues: audio glitches, save/load failures, lag and freezing, and various gameplay bugs (turn progression, unit movement, war logs). Some modes like civil war and randomizer are not consistently reliable. Addressing these bugs could unlock the game’s full potential and solidify its positive reception.
Pros
  • Improved UI and quality-of-life features with smoother performance than the original AoH2.
  • Deeper, more in-depth gameplay and new features that make it a strong AoH2 successor.
  • Fun, engaging arcade-style grand strategy that offers satisfying conquest and replayability.
  • Good value and overall positive reception; many players feel it’s worth the money.
Cons
  • Recurring audio glitches (crackling, distortion, or complete audio break) across maps and background music.
  • Save/load problems: games failing to save across sessions or multi-country saves.
  • Significant lag, stuttering, and freezing, especially on large maps or with many troops.
  • Gameplay bugs affecting core playability (turn progression after load, wars not logged, unit movement glitches, happiness fluctuations).
  • Civil war/independence mechanics and certain modes (e.g., randomizer) not functioning or unreliable.
Recent reviews
I have played this franchise for quite some time now, enjoying from some early releases. This version offers way more complexity and more challenging rewards. Unfortunately, since first downloading the definitive version my saved games will let me get into the game, but not actually click on any buttons, or pass to the next day. I have put a lot of time into kingdoms and when I come back to play I’m just stuck on this screen with no menus (other than stats) and the game map OR it will show me the whole UI but nothing is clickable. Again to reiterate, it pains me to give this low of a score as this is one of my favorites, but this bug is making it unplayable for more than the first time. (Tried on iPhone 16 pro max 26.6.1 and iOS 27 beta)

Sorry for any mistakes i’m using translator for this review. I like the gameplay, but the game is full of bugs and feels unfinished. On the new map, it consistently crashes after three turns. On top of that, all my save files on the old map completely disappeared, and there are constant audio issues. It’s a good game at its core, but it needs a lot of fixes.
