WHO UV Index Guidelines:
The UV Index was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Meteorological Organization, and other international bodies as a global standard for UV reporting. Here's what each level means:
· 0–2 (Low) — Minimal risk. You can safely enjoy the outdoors.
· 3–5 (Moderate) — Seek shade at midday. Wear sunglasses, a hat, and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen.
· 6–7 (High) — Reduce sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunscreen and protective clothing are essential.
· 8–10 (Very High) — Take extra precautions. Fair-skinned individuals may burn in under 10 minutes.
· 11+ (Extreme) — Avoid outdoor exposure if possible. Unprotected fair skin can burn in less than 5 minutes.
Note: These recommendations are based on lightly tanned skin (Fitzpatrick Type II). If you have lighter skin, children, or are on photosensitizing medication, take extra care. Those with darker skin tones may tolerate more exposure, but UV damage is cumulative for everyone.
