Costmate: Breakeven Profit

History

Costmate is the evolution of years of pricing products within the wholesale industry. I would always ask (nicely!) my partner to validate my calculations and numbers. This is exactly what Costmate is expected to be - a partner to assist you with your calculations.

Costmate is your financial utility tool designed for simplicity and precision without the complexity of a spreadsheet. Whilst most calculators tell you where you are, Costmate tells you where you could be.

Key Features:

1. Strategic Break-even : Don't just aim for zero. Set a 20%, 30%, or 50% profit margin goal and let Costmate calculate how much you charge customers
2. Interactive Simulations: Use the What-If Curve to visualize how a 5% increase in material costs or a 10% drop in sales volume could impact your bottom line
3. Executive Summary: A high-level dashboard showing Total Revenue, Combined Costs, and your Contribution Margin at a glance
4. Privacy-First: Your data is yours. Costmate performs all calculations on-device. No cloud, no tracking, no account required
5. In v1.3, fixed costs were being distributed equally across the product ranges. From v1.4 you are able to select between equal or weighted distribution. With weighted distribution, fixed will be allocated depending on revenue contribution.
6. Business Insights : A stunning dashboard for visualising all the fuzzy numbers capable of turning insights into business actions.

Instructions for Use:

• Start with the products tab
• Input the number of products you anticipate to sell over the course of 12 months
• You can label each product, input an anticipated price and weekly volume
• On the Fixed costs tab, input your anticipated annual fixed costs. You can add the individual costs and the app will calculate the total
• Go the Variable costs tab and input your anticipated annual variable cost for each product
• On the Results tab you can now view your Total Cost and Total Revenue.
• Each Product will separately display their variable cost/unit, fixed cost/unit, total cost/unit, current price, profit margin % at current price, current demand and break-even units at current price
• You can toggle the 'Show Target Profit Metrics' ON/OFF which will allow you to move the slider to a desired profit margin
• This will display Target Price, Target Profit Margin % and Target Break-even units
• The What-if Analysis tab incorporates a real time Total Cost & Total Revenue equilibrium curve and 5 what-if simulations
• Adjust the inputs as desired and the resultant baseline variance will be displayed

There are a few key assumptions built into the design of this app.

Assumptions:

• The app uses a baseline 12 month period for all calculations
• The user has forecasted variable costs for each product range separately
• The user has pre-determined inputs for the product range, weekly volumes for each product range and variable costs for each product range

Feedback: We are constantly looking at ways to improvise and therefore welcome all constructive feedback. Currently we are reviewing ideas for v1.5 and appreciate suggestions to empower the tool.
