I originally downloaded this thinking it might be a tribute app for 80s hip-hop legend Tone Lōc ready to serve up “Wild Thing” on loop. No such luck and no cooking up a "Funky Cold Medina." Instead, this app’s tackling a real problem in the music industry and what it’s actually doing is much more interesting: pairing streaming with an actual trading market, so fans can put real skin in the game backing independent artists instead of just feeding an algorithm and hoping for the best. Instead of watching from the sidelines, you get to be part of how a musician’s catalog grows. The concept of blending a streaming service with a trading market to let fans directly back independent artists is a refreshing shift away from the passive, algorithm-heavy platforms we're used to. It’s a crowd sourced model for how new music gets funded and discovered. Tone gives passionate listeners a chance to play a part in a musician's growth. It’s a really smart, practical way to put some weight behind supporting new music and participate in the upside and earn some Mean Green Cheeba Cheeba!
