The IEC 61850 Browser is a mobile diagnostic and control tool for IEC 61850-based protection and control devices (IEDs), developed for professional use in the field.
The app supports direct connections to IEDs as well as automatic device discovery through an integrated network scanner. Via the USB-C interface, Ethernet-to-USB-C adapters can be connected and configured as the primary network interface, ensuring that all IEC 61850 communication is routed exclusively through the selected port.
Once connected, the app automatically reads the complete IEC 61850 data model from the IED and displays it in a clear, structured hierarchy. Users can query individual or multiple data objects at the same time and monitor live values.
For each retrieved value, the app displays:

• Quality information
• Timestamp
The app supports both time-based polling and report-based monitoring. Depending on the capabilities of the connected IED, users can monitor live process data either by cyclic polling or by subscribing to IEC 61850 reports for efficient event-driven updates.
An integrated Event Log is available for both monitoring modes. Recorded events can be exported in TXT or CSV format for documentation and further analysis.
The app also supports sending control commands to IEDs. If a command is rejected, detailed feedback is provided, including the reason for rejection.
Cybersecurity features are also supported for protected IED connections. Depending on the device manufacturer and configuration, users can authenticate either with a password only or with a combination of username and password.
If supported by the connected IED, disturbance records can also be accessed and read via file transfer.
The IEC 61850 Browser can generate and export IEC 61850 CID and IID files based on the connected IED. Exported files can be used for engineering, documentation, and interoperability purposes.
Exported CID/IID files and recorded Event Logs are stored locally within the app, allowing users to access, review, and export them again at any time without reconnecting to the IED.
The app also includes an integrated time server that can synchronize the time of supported IEDs directly from the mobile device, simplifying commissioning and maintenance tasks.
For continuous monitoring, the app includes an option in Settings to prevent the device display from turning off while the app is in use. This helps avoid automatic device locking and potential connection interruptions during longer monitoring sessions.
The IEC 61850 Browser is under continuous development, with more features planned for future releases.
