PhoneFence Beacon

PhoneFence Beacon is the iPhone companion to PhoneFence for Mac. Pair it once with your Mac and your iPhone broadcasts a Bluetooth signal that lets your Mac detect when you walk away. Your Mac can then lock itself automatically, and unlock again when you return.

What it does: • Acts as a Bluetooth Low Energy beacon so the Mac knows your phone is nearby • Pairs with your Mac through a one-time QR code scan • Optionally syncs paired-Mac status over iCloud if Bluetooth is interrupted • Sends a local notification if your Mac asks for attention

What it does NOT do: • No accounts, no sign-up, no email collection • No analytics, no crash reports, no usage telemetry • No background tracking, no location data • No advertising IDs, no third-party SDKs

How it works: The iPhone runs a low-energy Bluetooth advertisement. Your Mac listens. The pairing is anchored to a cryptographic identifier that's exchanged once via a QR code shown on your Mac. That identifier stays on both devices and is never transmitted off them.

If you turn on iCloud, the app may sync a small device-status signal (like "Mac is currently locked") through your private iCloud database using CloudKit. This stays inside your Apple account and never reaches our servers. You can disable iCloud at any time in System Settings.

PhoneFence Beacon is free and contains no in-app purchases. The companion Mac application is distributed separately.
