Just speak to your iPad or iPhone, and Bridgy can convert your speech into text, translate it into another language, and read the translation aloud.

Bridgy is a conversation support tool that combines translation, speech recognition, text-to-speech, and handwriting input.

It is useful for travel, multilingual conversations, language learning, and communication with seniors

Simply place one iPad or iPhone between two people and communicate face-to-face.

Supports handwriting, speech input, and keyboard input. Apple Pencil is also supported on iPad.

Translate conversations into six languages and have the translated text spoken aloud. Language downloads are required only once. After that, translation can be used offline.

Your conversations are not sent to the developer's servers.

■ Why Bridgy Was Created

During 14 years of volunteer listening activities, I met people who were completely deaf and isolated, people who had lost the ability to speak after a stroke, and people struggling to communicate because of language barriers.

"I wish conversations could feel more natural."
