Real-time road flooding risks
Know before you go! Real-time king tide flood predictions for roads and highways so you never get caught in surprise flooding again! (Also, because cars can't swim.)
AS FEATURED IN THE ARK NEWS (Jan 28, 2026) in Tiburon, CA, FloodRoute shows which roads may flood during high tides, before you drive into trouble. Using NOAA tide data, OpenWeatherMap barometric pressure, Open-Meteo rainfall data, road elevation mapping, FEMA flood zone data, historical news records, and crowdsourced user-submitted verifications, FloodRoute provides realtime estimations of flood-prone streets -- and "what if" scenarios -- so you can plan safer routes in coastal communities.
AVAILABLE IN 6 REGIONS:
• Boston, MA
• Marin County, CA
• Miami, FL
• New York City, NY
• San Francisco, CA
• Tampa, FL
My first iOS app, FloodRoute was inspired by Nextdoor neighbors in my home of Marin County. What started as a simple idea became a full-fledged app when I racked up nearly 200 requests within 24 hours of sharing my idea.
FEATURES
• Rainfall effect: Predictions factor in recent rainfall (Marin County, CA only)
• High tide countdown: Live countdown timer to the next notable high tide
• Flood alerts: Get notified before dangerous high tides
• Report Conditions: Drop a pin to report road conditions. Help improve predictions for everyone.
• Warn Friends: Easily share a screenshot of flooded roads with family and neighbors
• Real-world validated: Calibrated against historical king tide flooding and augmented by user-submitted reports.
• Visual flood risk indicator at a glance
• 7-day tide forecast
• Real-time NOAA tide predictions
• See current, high tide, or interactive "what if" flood scenarios
• Interactive map showing at-risk roads
• No account or login required
HOW IT WORKS
FloodRoute combines live NOAA tide data with high-resolution USGS elevation data to predict which roads — or portions of roads — are at risk of flooding. Flood zones are calibrated against documented king tides and historical flood records for real-world accuracy, and then augmented by user-submitted reports.
DATA SOURCES
• NOAA CO-OPS: Real-time tide predictions
• Open-Meteo: Precipitation/rainfall data
• OpenWeatherMap barometric pressure
• USGS: High-resolution road elevation data (NAVD88)
• OpenStreetMap: Road geometry
• FEMA: National Flood Hazard Layer zones
• Historical Records: Documented king tide flooding events used for calibration
• User reports: Augmented by crowdsourced user feedback

After the recent floods in Marin, I know I am quite happy to see this app having been developed, and I know many others will be as well. Looking forward to the expansion out to Oakland where I also spend a lot of time. So far, so good with the functionality. Offers a lot of helpful information in one place, and we will really get to test it out fully, next time the king tides do their thing….
