Helping All Voices be Noticed was born out of a moment of compassion—when migrant workers stepped in to help a family in need. Their kindness sparked a mission to bridge the gap between generosity and need. This app brings that mission to life by creating a community space where everyday necessities can be shared with dignity, respect, and empathy. Helping All Voices be Noticed (HAVN) is a youth-led initiative based in Singapore, dedicated to making everyday life more welcoming for the city’s migrant worker community. From creating dedicated social spaces in worker dormitories that are home to thousands of migrant workers, to organising festive food drives and donation networks, the initiative is built around connection. Through workshops and community engagement, HAVN also works to bring Singaporean youth closer to the stories and challenges of the migrant workforce, fostering understanding and mutual respect.

The motivation behind this work is deeply personal. During the COVID-19 lockdown, my 82-year-old grandfather, Lt. Col. S.N. Arora (Retd.), was living alone in Karnal and struggling with basic daily needs. With no family able to reach him, we turned to the local administration and were moved by their swift and compassionate response. Within hours, a dedicated support team was assigned to care for him as part of a broader initiative for vulnerable citizens. This experience highlighted how powerful a strong support system can be—and how many people face crises without one.

Later, in Singapore, witnessing prejudice directed toward migrant workers during everyday moments was a painful reminder of the dignity and empathy that are often missing for those who do some of the hardest and most essential work. These contrasting experiences—one of compassion and one of exclusion—shaped the journey to advocate for fairness, empathy, and justice for migrant communities.

What began with small acts, such as donating food during festivals and involving friends, grew into a larger effort after connecting with worker dormitories housing thousands of residents. It became clear that beyond material needs, what many people longed for most was a sense of belonging and community. Drawing on experience in youth leadership and advocacy, the initiative expanded into building inclusive social spaces, facilitating workshops, and creating digital tools that help connect donors, volunteers, and those in need.

Havnsg provides the digital platform that supports this work. Users can create profiles, list items they wish to donate, or request everyday essentials by adding descriptions and photos. The app helps match donations with requests and allows volunteers to assist with coordination and status updates. Real-time notifications keep users informed about activity, matches, and progress, making the process transparent and easy to follow. Through simple, thoughtful design, Havnsg enables meaningful participation and encourages community-driven support.
