KnitYourPhoto – Turn Your Photo Into a Knitting Project

Transform your favourite photos into beautiful, one-of-a-kind knitting patterns! Whether it's a portrait, a landscape or your pet – with KnitYourPhoto you create unique knitting charts that are as individual as you are.

How it works:

Choose a photo from your library or take a new one. The app analyses the colours and automatically creates an optimised knitting pattern. You set the size, the number of colours and your personal gauge – KnitYourPhoto does the rest.

The perfect colour palette:

The smart colour quantisation reduces your photo to the number of yarn colours you want. The result is a pattern that's realistic to knit while still keeping all the important details of your image. Tap any colour in the palette to highlight it in the pattern – ideal when knitting with multiple colours.

Preview mode:

Shows you how the finished piece will look – perfect for checking before you start.

Knitting mode – flat and in the round:

Displays the rows the way you actually knit them. In flat-knitting mode the return rows are automatically mirrored, so you always know which stitch comes next.

Row-by-row written instructions:

Prefer to follow written instructions? The instructions mode turns your pattern into a clear row-by-row description – listing the stitches and colours for each row. Available as instructions for flat knitting or for knitting in the round.

Stay on track:

Simply tap a row number to mark it as done. Completed rows are shown subtly so you can focus on your current work.

Flexible navigation:

Free scrolling: move through your pattern freely in any direction. The mini preview in the title bar always shows your current position within the overall pattern.

Knitting machine export (PNG):

Working with a knitting machine? KnitYourPhoto exports your pattern as a PNG image with exactly one pixel per stitch, using only the yarn colours. A pattern of 70 × 70 stitches with 4 colours becomes an image of exactly 70 × 70 pixels with precisely those 4 colours – ready to be read directly by knitting machines such as the Kniterate. The feature can be enabled in Settings (full version required).
