T-6B Fly IFR – Radio Instrument Orientation Trainer, On Demand
Turn your iPhone into a pocket-sized, always-available T-6B enroute navigation trainer. T-6B Pocket RIOT (Radio Instrument Orientation Trainer) lets you learn, practice, and master the core CNATRA Primary Instrument Navigation enroute procedures anytime, anywhere – no simulator bay, no aircraft, no crew schedule required.
Train the Procedures You’ll Actually Fly
Work through endless randomized scenarios built around the enroute techniques you’re expected to know cold:
• DIRECT TO A VOR
• STATION PASSAGE
• OVER-THE-STATION INTERCEPT
• RADIAL / RADIAL INTERCEPTS
• RADIAL / ARC INTERCEPTS
• ARCING
• ARC / RADIAL INTERCEPTS
• INTERSECTIONS
• POINT-TO-POINT
Each run re-rolls winds, headings, radials, and geometry, so you can drill procedures until the scan and logic become automatic instead of scripted.
Built on Real-World NAVAIDs and Magnetic Data
• Practice with a U.S. database of 968 ground-based NAVAIDs to tune and track.
• Uses the NOAA World Magnetic Model to apply realistic magnetic variation, so your instruments match the offsets you’ll see in the jet.
• Accurate wind modeling derives TAS and GS from your selected wind speed, direction, airspeed, and heading—perfect for building instinctive wind-correction skills.
Fly the HSI Like You’re in the T-6B
• Includes all core T-6B HSI presentations so students can build habits that transfer directly to the aircraft.
• Set heading, airspeed, and altitude and slew the “airplane” around the sky to visualize your geometry.
• Choose your turn style: hold-to-turn (continue turn while pressing) or tap-to-start / tap-to-stop for hands-off standard-rate work.
• Select Standard Rate Turn (SRT) or 1/2 SRT to match your training profile.
• Five play-speed levels let you slow things down to learn or speed things up to stay sharp.
• One-tap clock start/stop and a fast Play/Pause toggle make it easy to brief, fly, pause, and debrief each scenario.
Endless Practice, Anywhere
Because it’s iPhone based, T-6B Pocket RIOT goes wherever you go:
• Knock out a few DIRECT-TO or ARC / RADIAL reps between events.
• Keep your instrument scan and mental picture sharp on the road.
• Instructors can quickly build “what if” drills on the spot—no sim bay scheduling required.
ForeFlight Mobile Integration – Train with the Same Tools You Fly
T-6B Pocket RIOT can broadcast simulated position and attitude data over Wi-Fi so ForeFlight Mobile sees your iPhone as a connected device. This means you can:
• Watch your simulated aircraft move across ForeFlight’s map and geo-referenced approach plates.
• Practice procedures with the same EFB you use in the aircraft, building muscle memory and situational awareness before you strap in.
• Debrief tracks, altitudes, and speeds to see exactly how well you flew each scenario inside your EFB.
Getting Connected Is Simple
- Make sure your Mac/PC and iPhone are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- In the FLY IFR / RIOT app settings, enable broadcast/simulator output.
- On your iPad running ForeFlight, go to More > Devices, select the simulator source, and enable it.
- On your iPhone or iPad, allow Local Network access for the app in iOS Settings.
Designed for T-6B Students, Instructors, and IFR Pilots
Whether you’re:
• A T-6B student trying to get ahead of the airplane on VOR/HSI work,
• An IP looking for a flexible, low-friction way to assign extra reps, or
• An instrument-rated pilot who wants a pocket trainer for raw-data radio navigation,
T-6B Pocket RIOT gives you an endlessly replayable, highly configurable instrument navigation sandbox—built around real procedures, real NAVAIDs, realistic winds and mag variation, and the same EFB ecosystem you’ll use in the fleet.
Master the scan. Own the geometry. Show up to every event already ahead of the needle with T-6B Pocket RIOT.
