D-Pad, Hangul Keyboard

This keyboard has been faithfully designed to reflect the principles of creation recorded in the Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon, printed in 1446.

For consonants, the guttural, lingual, labial, and dental sounds are positioned around the four cardinal directions, with the glottal sound occupying the center. The basic characters of the Five Elements (ㄱ, ㄴ, ㅁ, ㅅ, ㅇ) are arranged accordingly.

For vowels, the basic characters for North (1), South (2), East (3), and West (4) (ㅗ, ㅜ, ㅏ, ㅓ) are placed around the four cardinal directions, and the first character of Heaven, Earth, and Man, 'Heaven' (・), is located in the center (5).

The basic consonant keys are designed so that pushing them inward inputs jeoncheong (ㄹ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅈ), and pushing them outward inputs chacheong (ㅋ, ㅌ, ㅍ, ㅊ). (However, the semi-vowel ㄹ is arranged exceptionally.)

The basic vowel keys are designed so that pushing them inward inputs ㅠ(6), ㅛ(7), ㅕ(8), and ㅑ(9), which have ㅣ (representing 'man') added in front, and pushing them outward inputs ㅚ, ㅟ, ㅐ, and ㅔ, which have ㅣ (representing 'man') added at the end.

Pushing the central glottal sound key upward inputs the chacheong character ㅎ. Pushing the central 'Heaven' (・) key to the right inputs ー(10), and pushing it downward inputs ㅣ (representing 'man' or 'person'; no number assigned).
