Japanese classics, read aloud
Listen and read: as a pro narrator reads Kenji Miyazawa's tales, the current line glows on a vertical-text page. All in Japanese — a beautiful way to immerse.
■ Ihatov in your pocket.
On a rainy train ride. Late at night, with the lights turned low. In the middle of housework, when you find yourself gazing somewhere far away—
"Tatsuo's Kenji Miyazawa Reading Collection" slips the words of Kenji Miyazawa — one of Japan's most beloved storytellers — into the small quiet moments of your day. Every story is read aloud in Japanese by a professional narrator, while the original text follows along on screen.
(Please note: this app is Japanese-only — all stories, audio, and the interface are in Japanese, with no English translation.)
■ The voice and the text breathe together
As the narrator reads, the sentence being spoken glows softly on the page. Listen with your ears, follow with your eyes — and the words become more than letters.
Tap any passage to play from that point, and wander back and forth through Kenji's world as many times as you like.
■ Vertical text, like the pages of a Japanese book
The text flows top to bottom, right to left — the layout Japanese was born to be read in. Furigana reading aids appear naturally over difficult kanji, so you never have to stop.
■ Wonderful for Japanese learners
Everything in this app is in Japanese — and that is exactly what makes it a great immersion companion. Authentic narration by a professional, text highlighted in sync so you never lose your place, furigana over hard kanji, and tap-to-replay to shadow a sentence as many times as you need. Listening practice and reading practice, together, through stories every Japanese reader grew up with.
■ Reading, your way
Adjust the text size freely, and pick a highlight color from 30 presets, each named after Kenji's world — "Moonlight," "Galaxy," "Snow," "Ihatov."
■ Kenji stays with you, even with the screen off
Background playback, Bluetooth, and lock screen controls. The passage being read appears right on your lock screen — as if the story keeps turning its own pages in your pocket.
■ The screen stays awake while you read (optional)
While the player screen is open, the display won't dim — nothing interrupts reading along with the voice. (Background playback works with the screen off as usual, and you can turn this off in Settings.)
■ Meet a story through tags
"Cats," "Art," "Anger," "People and Animals" — pick a tale by the tag that fits your mood today, and let an unexpected story find you.
■ Offline, anywhere
Download once, and the stories follow you — on mountain roads beyond the signal, in subway tunnels, with no data worries.
■ Narrated by Tatsuo Watanabe
Professional narrator Tatsuo Watanabe breathes life into each and every work — narration that values the air between the lines over showy inflection. Through the voice, the delicate landscapes of the original prose slowly rise.
■ Selected works
"The Restaurant of Many Orders," "The Cat's Office," "Gauche the Cellist," "Yamanashi," "The Nighthawk Star" — from classics every Japanese schoolchild remembers to quiet gems still waiting to be discovered.
A little of Kenji's wind, in the gaps of your day.
Start a new kind of reading, where voice and text come together.
