Small Voice: Talk to God

You said something to God once. Nothing came back. So you stopped.

Almost nobody in the Bible heard back either. David pleaded on the ground for seven nights and got nothing. Ruth never heard a word her whole life. Job talked into silence for thirty-five chapters — and what he got at the end wasn't an answer. It was God.

Job's friends had the right theology. They said all of it about God. Job said everything to Him — the accusations, the questions, the anger. God said Job was the one who spoke rightly.

That's the difference. Not requests. Not getting it right. Telling Him what's actually going on, to His face.

If you don't know how to start, a psalm starts it and you finish it:

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long must I turn this over in my own head? I have been going round and round about whether to leave this job for seven months. I have asked you and nothing has moved. I am telling you now: I don't know what to do and I'm tired of pretending I do.

That's the whole thing.
