Features & Capabilities

Escape Game 1888 is a new escape adventure from Jammsworks. In the first chapters you enter Vincent van Gogh's solitary world and memories — The Room in Arles, The Asylum in Saint-Rémy, The Solitary Atelier, and The Letter Room — gathering hidden words to reveal his final letter to Theo, blurring art, dreams, and reality.

Features include an easy start for new players, hints, and auto-save, plus note-taking without paper (swipe from the screen edge). The game emphasizes touch-first exploration: tap to search, switch viewpoints, enlarge items, drag to use, and combine items, with hints accessible from the MENU. Created by Jammsworks designers Asahi Hirata and Naruma Saito.

User Reviews

Escape Game: 1888 is widely praised for its stunning art, moody atmosphere, engaging puzzles, and a Van Gogh–themed narrative that feels polished. Reviewers credit Jammsworks’ craft and music. However, recurring issues include technical bugs and freezes, a shorter length than prior titles, a darker portrayal of suicide, occasional puzzle confusion, and banner ads that disrupt readability. Overall it’s celebrated as one of the developer’s best, with caveats about bugs, pacing, and sensitive content.
Pros
  • Stunning art style and visuals with a moody, immersive atmosphere.
  • Engaging, clever puzzles that feel original and satisfying to solve.
  • Van Gogh–themed narrative that ties art, history, and puzzles together.
  • High production quality and polish from Jammsworks; consistently strong.
  • Soothing music and sound design that enhances the experience.
Cons
  • Technical issues: freezes/crashes, unresponsive items, and bugs impacting play.
  • Shorter length than previous Jammsworks games, leaving some players wanting more.
  • Darker, somber tone and a depiction of suicide that may be off-putting or distressing.
  • Some puzzles and item interactions can be confusing or feel inconsistent.
  • Ads/UI annoyances: explicit ad imagery and banners that block subtitles and hinder readability.

I love escape games and this looked interesting. But the last thing I want to see are images of a an undressed woman in explicit poses going across the top and bottom of my screen. This game indicates that it is for ages 4+, but with those kinds of ads, absolutely not. Hopefully this is just some terrible mistake.

The art is great, the music is soothing, and the puzzles are interesting… but it has frozen my screen almost 8 times in the past two days. Sometimes the interactive items stop responding, then start flashing. Hasn’t been a great experience unfortunately.
