v2.0 is here: Places that tell your circle you arrived, voice notes, pings, and a redrawn app throughout. Saving a place and adding a contact now work.
Nobody travels alone.
Close Circle tells the people who care about you that you got there. Not where you've been all day — just that you're alright.
Add a few people you trust. Start a trip when you set off. They see you go, and they see you arrive. In between, your day is nobody else's business.
START A TRIP
Pick where you're going and who's watching. Your chaperones follow your route live, see when you're expected, and are told the moment you arrive. Walking, driving, cycling or transit — the arrival time adjusts to how you're travelling.
You can also set off with nobody watching yet. Someone who needs to leave right now should never be held up by an empty circle, so a chaperone can join after they've been alerted.
CHECK-INS
Set a reminder and the app asks whether you're alright. Miss it and your circle is told you've gone quiet. Saying nothing is exactly when someone should hear from us.
SOS
Hold the button. A countdown runs, your circle is alerted, and your emergency contacts are sent a message with your location — they don't need the app for that to reach them.
Then Close Circle puts the emergency number for wherever you are on screen, one tap away. iOS never places a call on your behalf and we don't pretend otherwise.
You can cancel at any point. Cancelling stops the call, and your circle stays notified — a false alarm they never hear about is worse than one they do.
PLACES
Name the places that matter: home, work, a friend's. Your circle is told when you get there and when you leave, without anyone having to watch a map all day.
STAY IN TOUCH
Message your circle, or hold to send a voice note. Send a ping when you just want to know somebody's alright, and they can answer with one tap.
RECORD A TRIP, IF YOU WANT TO
Trip audio is off until you switch it on. It asks first, plays an audible tone so people nearby know, shows an indicator the whole time it runs, and is encrypted on your phone before it goes anywhere. It's free on every account.
WHAT YOU SHARE, AND WHEN
Two choices, and you can change your mind any time in Settings:
• Only during trips — your chaperones see you from the moment you set off until you arrive. The rest of the day is yours.
• Safe Presence — your circle can see you any time, and Places alerts work all day. Best for households sharing both ways.
Nothing happens until someone is on the other end. Chaperones have to accept, and either of you can end it.
