I think it’s completely counterproductive to make subscription apps for autistic or neurodivergent people. There are already plenty of studies out there that show the higher cost of our lives. You can also bet most of us will forget to use this and continue paying subscription for who knows how long. Just make it a paid app! Many actual autistic or neurodivergent apps cost money but it ends up being way cheaper than a subscription.
FAIR WARNING YOULL NEED TO PAY A SUBSCRIPTION TO FULLY BE ABLE TO USE.

Once you get the hang of scheduling the tasks it’s easy to use. Helpful for daily tasks that need a video model.

As a parent of a child with autism, I'm always on the lookout for tools that can genuinely make a difference in our daily lives, especially when it comes to fostering independence. I recently discovered an app called Hygiene Hippie, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer for us.
Ease of Use: A Parent's Dream
One of the first things that struck me about Hygiene Hippie is how incredibly user-friendly it is. From the moment I downloaded it, setting up the app was a breeze. The interface is clean, intuitive, and not cluttered with unnecessary features, which is a huge plus when you're already juggling a million things. Creating custom visual schedules for tasks like brushing teeth, washing hands, or getting dressed was surprisingly simple. I could quickly add steps, customize the order, and even assign specific images to each step. It's clear that the developers put a lot of thought into making this accessible for busy parents. My child, who sometimes struggles with new interfaces, took to it remarkably well, which speaks volumes about its design.
Functionality: Empowering Independence
The real power of Hygiene Hippie lies in its core functionalities: visual schedules and video models. These are two strategies often recommended by therapists, and having them integrated seamlessly into an app is brilliant.
Visual Schedules: The customizable visual schedules have been instrumental in breaking down complex hygiene tasks into manageable steps for my child. Seeing the sequence clearly laid out, with images representing each action, significantly reduces anxiety and confusion. It provides a predictable routine, which is vital for children on the spectrum. We've seen a noticeable decrease in resistance to daily routines since starting with the app.
Video Models: This feature is where the app truly shines for building independence. Being able to record short video clips of the desired action (e.g., how to squeeze toothpaste, or the steps for washing hands) and link them directly to the visual schedule steps is incredibly effective. My child learns so much by watching and imitating. It allows for repeated exposure to the correct way to perform a task, providing a clear and consistent example that I, as a parent, can't always perfectly replicate in the moment. It's like having a patient, consistent teacher right there on the screen.
Overall Impact
Hygiene Hippie has not only made daily hygiene routines smoother and less stressful for our family but has genuinely helped my child gain confidence and independence. It's fantastic to watch them take initiative and complete tasks with less prompting, guided by the app. It's more than just a scheduling tool; it's an empowering aid that leverages proven strategies in an accessible and engaging format.
I highly recommend Hygiene Hippie to any parent of a child with autism looking for an effective, easy-to-use tool to support skill-building and foster greater independence in daily living. It's a fantastic resource that truly delivers on its promise.
