User Reviews

TaskForge is highly praised for Obsidian-centric task management, strong customization, cross‑device support, and a polished UI. Tasks live with notes in the Obsidian vault and are searchable, with custom properties, views, and calendar integration. Privacy and a one-time/lifetime license are attractive. Recurring caveats include upgrade gating for premium features and occasional onboarding/purchase quirks. Overall, it’s considered a best-in-class Obsidian task solution with active ongoing development.
Pros
  • Deep Obsidian integration: tasks stored in the Obsidian vault, linked to notes, and searchable, with the vault acting as the source of truth.
  • Highly customizable and feature-rich: supports custom properties, grouping, filtering, multiple views, and calendar integration.
  • Cross-device and mobile-ready: works on Mac, iPad, iPhone with native notifications and Obsidian workflow compatibility.
  • Excellent UI/UX: beautiful, intuitive design that feels well-thought-out.
  • Privacy-first and flexible licensing: no data collection; buy once / lifetime unlock; avoids cloud lock-in.
Cons
  • Premium features and widgets are gated behind upgrades, which some users view as limiting the free tier.

Task Forge is nicely done and has become my primary todo and calendar application. The author is responsive and the app clearly has potential to be a big player in the organizational management field. If you are using Obsidian this is worth evaluating. If you are using tasks in Obsidian this is pretty much essential. Strongly recommended.

This app may seem intimidating at first given the large number of features, so I recommend starting with the single document view. After using this for several weeks, it has massively simplified my life. Before I would use Google Calendar as my todo list and constantly need to move events/tasks. But now I can copy and paste all the tasks from obsidian onto an LLM like Claude that is connected to Google Calendar, so it can reason about it and make changes and schedule events. Highly recommended!

Pros: good features, great design, ease of use(kinda), reasonable price point, does what is advertised! Cons: poor performance, kinda buggy (especially with a large vault. Even excluding 95% of the files didn’t help. Also, if you have existing tasks that aren’t using any plugins, GOOD LUCK, because the only way to kind of make it work for you is to use the custom lists, which are behind the paywall. That alone isn’t enough of an issue to justify the poor review. It’s moreso a combination of all of them. Most importantly, I don’t want to finish going through the trouble of setting it up for my workflow during the free trial, only to pay for the software and still have to wait an abysmally long time just to do anything in the app. I also have some features that if they were added and the performance was improved, I would be more than willing to pay for the full version of the app. TL;DR: the poor performance (which I think might be due to a large file count) severely outweighs any benefits for me.
