Plus 1: Plans First Social App

I just got the app. Such a great concept and looking forward to first plus1 event. However, the app needs stricter filtering on the activities they allow to be posted — in just a few minutes I can see the feed cluttered with people posting asking to be taken to a World Cup game (I.e. a date), or on a yacht, or a canvasser for a club. Beyond that, there are also a lot of “flexible watch parties” or “TBD date happy hours” posted — they are not actual planned at an exact location and date, where they are looking for a plus one. I’m going to keep giving it a try and will adjust the review accordingly, but all of the above are reasons why I’d easily abandon the app. A lot of those posts either need to be not allowed or there should be a filter to remove those out.

Much of the activity on the app appeared to involve older men seeking attention from younger women, including users offering rides in sports cars. This created an environment that felt misaligned with the app’s intended purpose. The concept has potential, but the current execution needs improvement. At present, the app does not differentiate itself enough from Facebook groups, Meetup, or other established community platforms. While it aims to help people make plans and meet others, it offers limited tools for discovering users with shared interests, building familiarity, or connecting before committing to an event. I also found that user feedback did not seem to be fully addressed. Discussions about suggested improvements were often compared to dating apps, which overlooked the main concern. The issue is not that the platform should function as a dating app, but that users need better ways to identify shared interests and establish a level of comfort before meeting new people. Many of the posted plans also lacked appeal or originality, making established local communities and social groups appear to offer stronger alternatives for finding meaningful meetups. Overall, the concept could succeed with improved filtering, more engaging community features, stronger opportunities for user connection, and a clearer value proposition that distinguishes it from platforms users already know and trust.
