Getting Started:

Requires iOS/iPadOS/tvOS/macOS 26. All subscriptions include support for all platforms with a single universal purchase.

Some features, like Amazon Alexa support, need an always-on controller (e.g., a dedicated iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, or a Mac running the app in the background).

Controlling some legacy devices may require an infrared adapter. Visit the Compatibility Assistant in the app for more information. Modern devices support IP control for direct integration.

For existing users of the previous Roomie Remote 9 app, Roomie Remote X brings a completely redesigned iOS 26 interface along with many new additions. Active subscriptions started in the V9 app carry over. If you have Unlimited Perpetual from V9, open the app to choose the plan that’s right for you. User Reviews

User reviews show a split: a subset praise Roomie Remote X’s fresh design, improved navigation, strong performance, and the ability to handle large configurations, with some noting seamless transfers. However, a larger portion report major upgrade pains: broken migrations, loss of settings and macros, read-only controls, and editing restrictions; combined with licensing costs and unclear purchase transfers, poor or vague support, and architectural changes like a required central controller. Overall sentiment is negative toward Roomie X due to reliability, migration, and cost issues, despite some notable positives.
Pros
  • Faster performance and notably lower battery usage on large configurations (many devices and activities).
  • Fresh, easier-to-use UI with features like kid-friendly iPad access.
  • Some users report seamless transfer of devices and activities and a simpler setup.
  • Long-time users see Roomie X as one of the better updates with improved reliability.
Cons
  • Upgrade to Roomie X causes data loss, broken migrations, and inability to edit configurations.
  • Migration/import reliability is poor: devices and macros may not transfer and the interface can become read-only.
  • Pricing and licensing issues, including costly lifetime subscriptions and unclear how purchases transfer.
  • Support is perceived as inadequate or vague (no direct contact, limited documentation).
  • Architectural changes (central/always-on controller requirement and major rewrites) force reconfiguring existing setups.

I get an empty home screen that’s completely useless. I don’t see the macros from I the original Roomie Remote. It says I’m supposed to unsubscribe from my perpetual license, but I would rather see settings come over first before I do so. So far I’m still using the old one and I don’t understand what I’m supposed to be doing here. Preview images look great in the App Store, but it doesn’t look remotely like that. Just empty screens.

1 star would be unfair because I haven’t been able to use it. But that’s the issue, it says 1 Smart TV can be set up for free, right? Not sure what constitutes as a Smart TV on the app, but I tried my Samsung TV which directed me to purchasing a subscription. Wasn’t sure what to make of that so I then tried Android TV for my Google Streamer and was hit with the same notification, so I’m not really sure how to proceed.
