User Reviews

Most reviews praise ChessBot for real-time training, accurate engine behavior, smooth performance, and ease of use, with many noting PC-level strength and helpful move suggestions. Main downsides are pricing barriers—a paywall and limited free trial—and requests for more control, especially the ability to adjust the bot’s Elo level. Several users also point out device limitations (not iPad) and the need to read instructions on first use. Overall, the app is valued for learning and practice, but pricing, Elo controls, and platform support are the most frequently mentioned concerns.
Pros
  • Real-time guidance with move suggestions to aid training
  • Smooth performance, accuracy, and PC-level engine strength
  • Easy to use and beginner-friendly for training and tactics
  • Helpful for expanding tactics and understanding how true chess is played
Cons
  • Paywall and pricing barriers with limited or no free trial accessibility
  • Inability to adjust the engine Elo level or bot strength (missing control)
  • Not supported on iPad / platform limitations
  • Onboarding friction requiring reading instructions to use effectively
