User Reviews

Reviewers mostly praise Linking Boy for top-tier GBA/GBC/GB emulation and strong local multiplayer linking, plus save transfer capabilities and solid controller support. Common drawbacks include a paid-to-play multiplayer model, occasional linking instability with many players, and save-management limitations (no cloud save, manual export). Some users also note performance quirks like frame-rate dips, tearing, and audio-desync, with requests for broader ROM linkage across game series.
Pros
  • Excellent GBA/GBC/GB emulation on iOS with smooth performance and accurate sound.
  • Robust linking/multiplayer feature that lets you trade and battle across devices (up to four players).
  • Save data portability: you can import games and export save data to other devices to continue playing.
  • Good controller support and overall usability (button remapping and Bluetooth controller compatibility).
Cons
  • Linking can be unstable when trying to connect more than two players and there are occasional connection hiccups.
  • Multiplayer requires a one-time $3 payment to enable the feature.
  • Save management lacks built-in cloud save and easy export; users often need workarounds (e.g., Filza) to transfer saves.
  • Performance issues reported by some users, including frame-rate drops, screen tearing, and audio desync; occasional mute issues when the device is on silent.

I don’t know which update ruined the linking but it sucks now. Me and my brother used to be able to link through our phone networks but now it only allows WiFi linking, and we need the ip address. It seems more unnecessarily difficult to link now.

I have an android and an iPhone. My friends have iPhones. I was able to connect my android to the iPhone using the hotspot on the iphone but I could not get their iPhones to connect to it also. I noticed that there is an option on the iPhone when going to settings and privacy and security that says (local networks.) the description at the bottom specifically says “apps that have requested permission to find and communicate with devices on your local network will appear here” but when I look through the list link boy is not in it. There any way to turn this on? I’ll give a 5 star when possible. Thanks!
