Oby Adventure: Platformer

I’m a platform gamer, and I love how cute this one is! The levels are interesting and the graphics are great. It’s not just a copy of that other plumber-focused run, jump, get coins kind of game. I have a problem with the controls, however. If you’re running to the side & jump to grab a coin, sometimes Oby STOPS moving to the side. There isn’t enough fluidity between the controls to maintain smooth gameplay. I just died multiple times in a row on an early level because Oby keeps stopping when I need him to move sideways AND jump at the same time. Improving the controls will improve gameplay, and thus, also, enjoyment of the game. Right now, I just get frustrated that Oby doesn’t always move how I ‘tell’ him to.

UPDATE: Really like it so far. Touch controls are not good. Controller works great. It would be nice to know which of the 3 tokens/coins you are missing, they do not have a reserved spot so if you only find the second token in a level, it fills the first slot. Ignore the morons with negative reviews, nothing is free. Support small developers. The IAP are clearly listed on the App Store.

Honestly, I like it! It’s very heavily inspired off of Mario, and I think they did a great job with the 2.5D aspect of the game from what I played off the demo. I do think the controls could be a bit more fluid. There were plenty of times that I missed the left/right buttons and the dash button. I think some development towards making the buttons: 1. More flexible 2. More thematic (currently it’s just left/right arrows and a big 1 and 2) Could go a long way.
