User Reviews

Users largely criticize the app for gating most features behind a subscription and a limited free version, with paywalls affecting maps and discovery. Some praise the field usefulness, noting strong map and ID tools and rich rock-hunting content. Concerns include inconsistent ID accuracy and questions about legitimacy and pricing. Overall, explorers see value in the features, but the pay-to-use model fuels widespread dissatisfaction.
Pros
  • The map feature helps plan locations and navigate to rock-rich areas.
  • The identification tool can correctly identify common rocks/minerals and assist with field work.
  • Rich informational content about rocks, crystals, maps, and rock-hunting guides.
  • Useful in the field for hikers and explorers as a rock-identification companion.
Cons
  • Paywall/subscription is required for core features (maps, filtering, etc.).
  • Free version is very limited or only offers a free trial.
  • Identification accuracy can vary and is sometimes inaccurate.
  • Perceived legitimacy concerns due to monetization approach and presence of an associated gem shop.

I downloaded it because it said it was free but it only had a free trial it’s a great app if you’re willing to pay

I downloaded this app from Tik Tok, which suggested that I would be able to find cool rocks, gems, and minerals around my location. Upon downloading, and after creating an account, you are immediately brought to the option to subscribe monthly or weekly. I didn’t subscribe, because every app hides everything worth anything behind a paywall. Would you like to see the map? Sure! But you want to filter your results? You have to pay a subscription! Nope! No thank you! At this rate, I’d much rather just go to the creek bed outside and see what I can find there on a warm day and a good manual!
