User Reviews

Mythic Mischief offers deep, asymmetric, tactical play across diverse factions with strong learning support and polished visuals. It shines in offering flexible pacing and good developer support, plus a freemium entry. However, it lacks an AI opponent, can have slow turn times in asynchronous play, has a smaller player base, and occasionally translates board-game rules imperfectly on mobile.
Pros
  • Asymmetric, tactical gameplay across diverse factions, offering chess-like depth and unique abilities.
  • Great learning tool that helps players quickly grasp rules and faction mechanics.
  • Polished app with strong visuals and a slick interface.
  • Active development and solid support from the IV Team.
  • Flexible play options (pass-and-play or online) and a freemium model that lets you try factions for free before buying more.
Cons
  • No AI opponent; the lack of a practice computer makes learning and repetition slower.
  • Turns can drag on or feel paralyzed by analysis in asynchronous play.
  • Relatively small player base limiting matchups.
  • Rule translation gaps between the board game and the app can cause balance and learning hiccups (e.g., Zombie decay, clutter rules).

This game/puzzle ruleset is amazing and the app polish is off the charts! They're adding an AI but in the meantime you can learn each faction really well with the "Triple Catch" puzzles. I recommend sticking to one faction until you've mastered all the puzzles. One you realize that pieces frequently can (and need to) move on top of each other, and that many of the abilities work diagonally, things should really click. Puzzles that took me a day and blew my mind now take a few minutes, so stick with it. What an amazing find this is!!!

I acknowledge that it is a provocative title for my review. However, for those of you who enjoy chess for its tactical nature, I believe Mythic Mischief is clearly superior in that regard. Of course, Chess will always be better strategically. That said, I simply don’t have the time to study all the chess moves and counter-moves, etc. MM gives me the same sensation as chess without the need to go deep in studying varying strategies. I can just look at the MM board for 20 min, come up with something clever and unexpected, and move on. It has all the sparks of chess and more since every faction is wonderfully asymmetrical. This game is a delight and its developer has been consistently improving it. I highly recommend it.

This game is amazing! Keeps my brain active lol. I learned the physical game first, but in my opinion, the app made learning the rules of each faction much easier. I really like that you can take up to 24 hrs to make a move, which allows me to play whenever I get a free moment (though I’m sure my opponents don’t appreciate it 😹). This makes it much more flexible so I actually play the game more vs having to block out 30 min of my day to play. I’ve been playing this game every day since I’ve downloaded it!
