User Reviews

User reviews show a split experience: the core IFTTT service can deliver powerful automations, but the iOS app is plagued by reliability issues, frequent upgrade prompts, and compatibility gaps. Many users feel the value declines due to bugs, flaky connections, and a burdensome subscription model, while a smaller subset reports positive performance when everything works.
Pros
  • Powerful automation capabilities when the platform and Applets function properly.
  • The underlying automation service is solid and Applets can run correctly when not disrupted.
  • When it works, users report genuinely positive experiences (e.g., 'It works great', 'Works like magic', 'Excellent').
Cons
  • Frequent reliability and stability issues: the app stops working, bugs, login/authorization loops, widgets disappearing, and inconsistent automation.
  • Pricing and subscription model is a major concern: pro pricing, repeated upgrade prompts, no free tier, and perceived overpricing.
  • Compatibility and integration gaps: Gmail not supported, limited app/device support, and trouble linking popular devices/services (Blink, Google Home, Hue, etc.).
  • Onboarding and setup friction: confusing instructions, need to use the web browser interface for connections, and ongoing maintenance requiring manual refreshes or workarounds.

I created an Applet so that when the garage door opens a fan turns on and when the garage door closes the fan turns off. It works about half of the time. I’m using the free version. Kinda hard to justify spending money unless it works 100% of the time.

Generated simple applets to turn on and off a WiFi-enabled AC unit with temperature triggers from my Nest thermostat. Everything’s connected, but the applets never activate.
