User Reviews

Backpack Battles on iOS offers deep, engaging strategy and offline play with a polished core, but the mobile port struggles with UI and input reliability. Data loss after updates and lack of account-based saves are common complaints. Some balance issues and missing mobile features further affect the experience, though updates have improved controls and UI. Overall, strong core gameplay shines once UX and data stability are addressed.
Pros
  • Engaging strategic depth and trait variety (multi-trait optimization)
  • Well-balanced and polished core gameplay
  • Works offline with easy-to-learn controls
  • Cloud save support
  • Good value / price for mobile play
Cons
  • Mobile UI/controls poorly adapted: small buttons and text, touch interactions are unreliable
  • Frequent progress/data loss after updates; lack of online account cross-platform saves to preserve progress
  • Input/drag glitches and bugs (auto-sell on drag, no undo, force close when dragging)
  • Balance/difficulty issues on mobile (some builds feel overpowered and battles can be harder)
  • Missing features like controller support and mobile 1v1 modes (and portrait orientation)

I bought this game when it came to mobile bc i had it on pc already and was excited to have it on the go. Played it for a while and got frustrated with some of the UI being less clear but that’s to be expected. Otherwise good port.

The negative reviews here come off as EXTREMELY harsh. Knowing the company that develops the top Pay2Win ripoff of this game, I genuinely think there’s more than a little bit of review bombing going on here. Crashes are understandable when first porting a game and the developer of Backpack Battles is constantly working to improve the app. Personally I’ve never once had a crash, on any update, and I bought the game in release. Basically if it’s an issue, it’s one that’s going to get fixed, relatively quickly. The controls seem to be people’s other gripe. Again, the dev is constantly adding and updating the game with QoL features that make it more attuned to mobile play. But even before that they’re really not all that bad given the scope of the game. Once you figure out how stuff works you no longer run into fat-fingering or wonkiness. It just takes a couple games and maybe a frustrating misclick or two before that point. This game has SO MUCH CONTENT. There are so maybe synergies, strategies and combinations that it’s almost overwhelming to consider them all. A whole bunch of varies classes who all have multiple unique play styles. There is definitely a learning curve but nothing is overly complex enough to be disheartening. Compare this to the Pay2Win copies where you’d have to pay hundreds of dollars to unlock the same amount of content and you quickly realize what a boon it is to still have developers who aren’t greedy pigs.
