User Reviews

Notebook is praised for its simple, distraction-free journaling with strong date-based organization and easy search/backup capabilities. However, pervasive ads, reliability issues (including data loss reports), and weak iPad optimization overshadow some experiences. Users also want more features (e.g., pictures, font sizing, categorization) and smoother navigation. Overall, it’s appealing for long-term, straightforward journaling, but ad experience and data reliability are the primary concerns.
Pros
  • Simple, clean, minimal design that keeps writing distraction-free.
  • Date-based organization with a chronological, book-like flow and time stamps.
  • Built-in search and easy backup/export options (search across entries, Share All, export to another device).
  • Sync across devices for consistent access to entries.
  • Long-standing reliability and popularity among long-time users.
Cons
  • Intrusive ads and banner pop-ups that dominate the screen and hinder typing; recent changes make ads harder to remove/update behavior varies by device.
  • Data reliability concerns: reports of notes disappearing, entry counts dropping to zero, and other glitches affecting data integrity.
  • Poor iPad optimization: small screen on iPad, ad clutter, and lack of features like font sizing or lock that degrade the experience on larger tablets.
  • Limited customization and features (no font size adjustment, no support for inserting pictures, limited categorization/organization options).
  • Search/navigation quirks and ad-related navigation issues (results not persisting when returning from a note; unreliable page flipping).

13 years strong here, straightforward notes app where I do all of my short-form writing--mostly poetry and songwriting. Super organized, has a search feature, date of entry stays the same even if you update your work, and if you do multiple entries in one day it shows you now many when you back out to view months/days. Sucks that ads default to block half the screen now, but flicking the app away and pulling it back up moves them out of view. If you want to backup your entries, you can find a simple Share All option in Settings and decide which method is right for you. This is the only app I ever use for more than a decade worth of writing and I hope that they maintain the same UI as they have since day 1. It is perfect as-is, coming from a professional, and I hope I never have to swap to any other app.

The ads at the top of the page and the small size make it impossible to use on an ipad. This app is just windows version of notes with lots and lots of ads.
