User Reviews
The AI generated sample reading excercises are an interesting idea, but there is much that can be done to improve the experience further:
1) There should be a button or affordance to have iOS read the sentence out loud slowly. AVSpeechSynthesizer is an easy API to use.
2) A user tap on a word should put that word on the PasteBoard to facilitate looking up a particular word in a dictionary app; your users probably already have "Shirabe Jisho" or "imiwa?" already installed (these apps appear to be frontends to public JMDict content).
Some kanji words are drawn in bold red and some are in plain white. I understand the intent to help with associating the Japanese word to the Engish translation, but I can't figure out why certain words are given this treatment and others are not. The limitation to one color seems unnecessary. Also, correspondence to the english translation is often not what I need; I need to know how to say the word and can't read the Kanji. Best would be to place furigana over the Kanji, but since the sentences are generated by AI, I see why that might be difficult. Tapping on a word to put it on the paste board would cover 90% of the need for furigana, and be very easy to implement.
The "explanations" (also via AI I assume) are typically not very helpful as instruction, though in recent builds of Oboeru.app the explanation appears to contain furigana of Kanji, so that's helpful.
The app bug where reviewing flashcards consumes too much iPhone energy (heating up the phone) is still present.
