What makes this approach so compelling for education?

Research from Benjamin Bloom (1984) coined the “2 Sigma Problem”:

1-on-1 tutoring enabled students to outperform 98% of their traditional classroom peers – but there was no way to provide a great tutor for every learner.

The DARPA digital tutor program solved the scaling problem and exceeded expectations.

In half the standard training time, it transformed novices into technicians who outperformed seasoned professionals with 10+ years of experience.

Independent evaluation by the Institute for Defense Analyses confirmed that digital tutoring can be even more effective than human tutoring.

The program was highlighted by a sitting US President and inspired the National Academy of Sciences to champion digital tutoring.
