Review summary

Dungeon Tracer is praised for its nostalgic Dungeon Raid feel and solid core gameplay, plus ongoing development. However, it suffers from repeated progression/unlock bugs, balance issues (normal vs hard), and update-related regressions that block advancement and diminish rewards. Overall, fans remain hopeful for fixes and continued content.
Pros
  • Nostalgic revival of the Dungeon Raid vibe, with many fans excited to have the game back.
  • Strong core gameplay and concept that players enjoy and feel is well-executed.
  • Active development and regular updates keep the game alive and evolving.
  • Generally enthusiastic fan reception and willingness to recommend to others who enjoyed similar games.
Cons
  • Unlocks and progression often don’t unlock or reflect progress (no new classes/traits despite play), a recurring bug.
  • Balancing issues make progression frustrating: normal mode is too hard and very hard is over-tuned.
  • Bugs and regressive changes from updates hinder progression (examples include updates making it harder to advance).
  • Long runs with little to no tangible progression/reward, and lack of meaningful checkpoints or rewards.

2026-06-02 No***** This is the Dungeon Raid clone I’ve been waiting for! There have been others but none of them have come as close as this one does. It even uses the same sound effects as the original! I love that I can go on a run that lasts hours, then turn it off & pick it up the next day. I would even dare say I prefer the graphics of this game over the original. The difficulty balance seems to be just right & I really appreciate the various classes & skills that can be unlocked through gameplay. Love it!

2025-11-29 Br***** So obviously it’s fantastic to have this game in my collection again…the app that inspired it was maybe my first iPhone purchase back in the day and I love how this game works. However, after one play through I unlocked a new class. Playing that class, I got to like level 23 with tons of unlocks reported. When I went to check them out, tho, I found exactly zero unlocked. No new classes, traits, skills. I’m assuming this is a a bug, especially since unlocks have apparently been an issue in the recent past? If that bug is squashed, tho, this is easily a 5-star game….

2025-01-31 Al***** The “normal” level is too difficult. I’ve played for many hours and find that as you progress on normal The enemies SIGNIFICANTLY out number everything else on board. I can see on hard and levels above but normal? And I haven’t been able to unlock anything. At the very least make it to where you can unlock new characters and weapons on easy and use those same unlocks on harder levels to get more advanced characters and items. But since the easy level doesn’t give you any unlocks (which isn’t so easy at times) then it feels like a waste of time playing. I LOVE the concept and gameplay execution. But there’s no joy when you can’t advance. (Playing normal or harder). And when you do advance you get nothing out of except a high score (Playing easy). Better yet-why not make to where every-time you play (regardless of the difficulty level) the game keeps a running accumulative score. And when you reach certain score milestones you’ll get to unlock characters and items. That way no matter how hard the game gets -you know you’ll be rewarded if you hang in there. Please do a major update and implement this idea. Then it will be a five star game.

2024-11-25 Of***** I don’t think I can thank you enough for basically bringing back one of the best games I’ve ever played back to iOS. Checking and seeing dungeon raid was gone was so devastating but I’m really glad I found this game. You’re doing such an amazing thing making this game and working on it still. It makes me really happy to see this games still getting updates. Anyways, thank you so much

2024-10-12 Ki***** New update made it impossible for me — too hard to advance and still not able to improve characters enough

2024-09-26 Nu***** I’ve played 29 games on Normal mode and killed my share of special enemies, but have neither unlocked nor leveled up a single thing. Just exactly how many special enemies killed is required to start seeing character advancement, new classes, and new perks? This is getting boring fast. Also, does the game contain some of the original sfx from Dungeon Raid? If so, that’s a cool tip of the hat.

2024-08-17 Pu***** The basic gameplay loop looks fun. I tried out the first sample battle, and it lasted over an hour till I was finally killed. And when I died, it was kind of on purpose because I was getting bored of such a long fight. After the battle, it looks like I didn’t unlock anything or progress anything. Complete and utter confusing waste of time. after an hour of playing a game and winning I should have some sort of progress. I’m guessing that dev is just sadistic or is waiting for people to buy expensive upgrades. Stay away not even worth $.99 . absolutely no sense of progression.

2024-08-11 S0***** I’m enjoying the game, but I’ve run into some problems. When I first started playing, I leveled the assassin to 3rd level. Now that I’ve unlocked all of the classes, none of the classes I’ve tried can be leveled. The special icon that used to occasionally drop after killing a boss just stopped appearing. Second, sometimes there’s an ability attached to items, but I have no idea how to use those abilities. Lastly, the “very hard” mode seems to be over-tuned. I survive hours in a run on “hard” mode, but can’t survive long enough to even reach my first upgrade on “very hard” mode. Maybe the meta-progression will fix that problem, but I can’t test that right now. Anyway, I think you have a solid foundation here. The game will be great with some bug fixing and polishing, and has the potential to be amazing with another layer or two of depth. Thanks!
